Iowa is NOT a real place - itâs a metaphor!
Field of Dreams Iowa didnât seem all that wonderful to me. A big ass farm is lots of work and nobody helped him I mean brother in law came around once in a while to bitch and moan but he never slapped on a pair of bibs and pitched in. His neighbors are trying to ban books, including one written by his soon to be best pal. Not to mention the financial stress.
LRA is cool though.
Basically a Children of the Corn remake. Also in Iowa
Place was haunted too. As soon as that little girl is old enough to understand whatâs going on, sheâs running away.
Tell me you didnât get something in your eye at this point!!
You want to have a catch?..
What type of backwoods lingo is this? Real people donât speak that way especially ones who have ever thrown a baseball
Well, itâs obviouls that is how they talk in Heaven, uh I mean Iowa. Iâm not sure about backwoods lingo as the screenwriter was born and raised in New York, but hey - if youâve ever tried to throw a baseball with a 4 year-old, then having a âcatchâ is a big deal as just about anyone can throw it but with my kids the odds of catching it were not so great!
Regardless, I got misty.
That reminds me of a story about how Greg Swindell , who at the time the story came out was walking roughly the fewest batters in MLB among starters.
Apparently when he was a kid and learning to throw, his parents werenât around or something and he ended up playing a lot with his grandfather who was older and had mobility issues. So basically, Swindell had to hit his grandfatherâs glove with virtually every throw or he had to go chase the ball down. As a result, he gradually learned to place the ball EXACTLY where he wanted to. If it were me, Iâd have talked to gramps about maybe playing checkers instead but maybe thatâs one of many reasons why I didnât become a pro athlete.
As the father of a 4 and 2 year old Im well aware that the catch part of playing catch is the hardest part.
