Really hope we make a push for that O’Neil kid from American. I like his game a lot.

Just one game, but watched most of their NIT against Vandy and he didn’t do much.

A new williford follow. 6’7 with 7ft wingspan out of NY playing well. Both clips involve a block against Brandon Gardner, top 100 recruit out of the Carolina area commited to St Johns.

Good redshirt target. Back to our wheelhouse of athletic front court players. There are a lot of diamonds in the unranked kids/just have to be either plus athletes or really good shooter. Not neither.

a more recent clip. Kid is tenacious and bouncy. Probably shoots 3s as well as anyone on our team outside McKneely and Traudt (lol).

@Marktykobe Hey! Do you know anything about this kid?

Are you talking about the kid Shay John?

I think that’s what he’s asking.

Yeah. Shay John. My bad.

D2 kid.
Sr right now and may prep

He has major bounce though. Can I ask, as someone who personally has almost zero familiarity with real scouting, what makes someone D2 vs Low major D1 vs High Major? Cause as a complete novice I just see Shay’s athleticism and think “he could be a really good glue guy from UVA in 3 years from now”.

Specifically Shay John, My guys are telling me while he’s athletic, he’s only 6’5 maybe 6’6 and not very skilled offensively. Defensively, he’s a strong rebounder using his athleticism and awareness to box out.

In general, D2 guys may be a little smaller, a little less athletic, may not be as skilled.
There are times when coaches get it wrong. There are several D2 kids who can and who have played D1 and experienced successful careers.

If he’s going to o be 12/13th man here then take him. It is basically a what they ended having/doing with Malachi.

Got it. Thanks for the insight. Definitely needs to be somewhat of a shooter at 6’5/6’6 even with the big hops. Will be interesting to see where he ends up down the line.

Definitely could see a mid major using an extra scholly on his potential and energy possibly. But can also see how the interest isn’t there, in the age of 3pt shooting.
