⛹️‍♂️ Elijah Gertrude - Official Thread

Yeah, per his bio, Theus was at Siena for a year (22-23), before going back to VCU and coaching with Odom for the first time:

TIL Steve Masiello and Carm Maciariello are two different people. I’ve always aggregated them in my head.

“UVA is where I wanted to be,” Gertrude said. “I committed here, I came here for a reason. Charlottesville is the place I wanted to be. I’m grateful for the opportunity Coach Odom’s giving me, still being able to play for the city of Charlottesville and play for the University of Virginia. This is where I want to be.”

Think about how rare this attitude is in today’s environment. I gotta get a jersey now.

He’s repairing that hole in his leg. He’s repairing that hole in himself. Once he’s done that, he’s gonna repair the entire University.

We need this, Elijah.

The reference, for those of you who aren’t on 40+ something rock critic twitter:

"Gertrude met with Odom shortly after Odom’s hiring and the two quickly agreed Gertrude would remain with the program.

Odom’s style of play, pressuring defensively and pushing the ball in transition, may even be a more natural fit for the bouncy, athletic Gertrude that Bennett’s slower-paced, pack-line approach.

“A system like this is pretty much how I play,” Gertrude said. “I love to get up and down. Athleticism. Defense. Getting a lot of shots and getting downhill. I’d definitely say it’s a great fit.”

Added an Elijah Gertrude signed basketball to my office the other day.

Eli’s goes with the balls signed by Ryan Dunn and Reece Beekman also in my office. Believe all three of these young men will be excellent NBA players.

For those interested, Cav Futures facilitated, and I was able to compensate the players directly for their time and effort. The Reece and Ryan balls were from 2 years ago (RD was 1st year and Reece a 3rd year).

Go Hoos.

Have you watched Reece in summer league?

I love all three of those players but I don’t think Reece will be great (or even good) in the league unless he starts being able to shoot and score more consistently. I’m a huge fan of Reece and also watch a ton of NBA.. he’s gonna have a hard time sticking in the league.

Not trying to be a Debbie downer just being realistic. I hope he proves me wrong.

You can just call CavFutures for autos now? Or is that a high level donor perk?

I don’t believe this is related to donation levels.

Just a way for the players to earn some extra NIL money.

Give CavFutures a call / email if you’re interested..

Go Hoos.

That’s awesome love that they’re doing that. They should advertise it… it would hook plenty of people.

The thing that has always worried me about Elijah even since high school is his reclass abandon tio the basket and falls Afterwards so often

For the record – and I’m by no means comparing the two – Dr. J didn’t have a great jump shot, either.

“Freshlish”?

But I’m sure he was terrible and a non contributor

Ok we agree with you. You know a lot more than all 3 Head Coaches that have kept him pretty much glued to the bench. Horrible horrible coaching jobs by 3 time National Coach of the Year and first year UVA Coach that has only won 25 games so far.

3 head coaches? He was hurt Sanchez year.
He averaged 9.4 minutes per game his freshman year….. when he wasn’t even fully healthy yet at the start of the year.
I like to be entertained and his play entertains me…
To each their own
