Yeah, letâs let them dream about playing together
People asking Grok recruiting questions is next level.
Ah yes, his âKnoxville rootsâ from his dadâs 1 year there that has been the only time in his entire coaching career heâs been outside of Texas. Nailed it, Grok.
Ouch. He just said weâre at the kidsâ table.
To be charitable, I do feel like Grok is well placed to weigh in on whether certain protests or marches can shift the the chances of landing a recruit, a la David Duke in 2017. The underlying algorithm has that expertise.

Didnât make lil Olajuwonâs top four.
Kind of a random list other than his dadâs school
Cincy apparently has an assistant who has been on him even before the assistant went to Cincy: Four-star forward Abdul-Aziz Olajuwon looking to build offer list this summer | Zagsblog
That has to be one of our quickest recruitments from offer to axed.
Geez Aziz, we hardly knew ya.
In sales, you donât mind quick decisions. Moving on âŚ

Havenât read / absorbed, but interesting stuff. Makes me wonder if we couldâve had a commitment by now if we were promising money. ![]()
Also Matt Henry pic on the first tweet
Edit - also, thereâs more of the theory that the Big East is sooo much better placed. So letâs see it in the dataâŚ.
Iâm enjoying coaches and agents negotiating through Norlander.
That coachâs prediction: The downturn in money means some of his contemporaries are lying to players right now. Those lies will become clear in the spring, and when other schools have the money those players were promised, theyâll defect.
âI could see there being a kid committed and, âHey, we can get you $500,000 or $1 million,â whatever, and that money comes back and they say, âMan, I just got my salary cap I can only pay you $300,000,ââ the coach said. âTheir AAU guy or their agent knows they can get more than that at Michigan State, Michigan or St. Johnâs and theyâll just de-commit and go there.â
I wonder if these coaches who are willing to give a number that they might not be able to follow through on are wagering that if thatâs the case then other schools canât get to that number either (i.e. because it means that 3rd party NIL dried up for everyone).
AlsoâŚcan we excise this kind of thinking from journalists:
Keep in mind, this season dozens of players who wonât be remotely close to All-American status agreed to deals months ago worth $1 million-plus. A lot of money â millions and millions and millions â will be wasted in 2025-26 on overpaid players.
Itâs fine to note how the dynamics of the House settlement led to an interesting use-it-or-lose-it mentality with programs, and that the cost of keeping up with the Joneses got higher. But framing this from the perspective of the programâs costs is certainly A Choice, and other choices exist.

It had been reported that they were up to see him yesterday.
Outstanding photo choice
So, if the reports are accurate that coaches and GMs are a bit uncertain about the funds which will be available now that the terms of the House agreement are in place, how does that effect fall recruiting?
If players, or, more importantly, their agents, feel that better offers will be available in the spring, do we see fewer commitments in preseason? Or, is it likely we see the same number of commitments as before, but with more de-commitments in post-season?
Are we going to see fewer offers because coaches are waiting to see who will become available in the portal and/or who might de-commit?
Finally, at what point do we see the introduction of multi-year contracts, and what does everyone imagine the âbuy-outâ clauses of such contracts will be like?
Itâs a brave new world out there!
@HoozGotNext will know more than me, but it seems that some mid majors are doing better with Top 100 type guys. VCU plus some other mid major school recently, got a 4-star type guy. Who was it Dayton?
The nice thing about a cap (if we really get one) is it does force teams to be a little more strategic and some lower level schools may choose to be more aggressive in HS recruiting which is relatively devalued, compared to transfers
On the latest CBS podcast, they noted that there were multi year contracts last year that just got broken in last yearâs gold rush. Parrish seemed to suggest there might be some litigation over it (unless I misunderstood), but I also think itâs possible that coaches might view that as bad PR. A lot to play out hereâŚ
Not everything is about NIL. Kids are going to mid majors because they want to play right away and theyâll promise them thatâŚknowing they can transfer up and get paid if they do well.
For the vast majority of high school recruits, NIL is not much of a factor at all. Teams donât pay for later, they pay for now. Especially when players can leave anytime.
There have been a lot of factors contributing to fewer early (pre fall) college decisions. The biggest being that coaches do very little early recruitingâŚ.itâs not what happens in April that gets the April commitment, itâs the work from the previous summer and fall. Hardly anyone does that work anymore. And then the calendar changes have taken away the old April to July gap and filled it with other activities, cutting down on visits and all the activity that leads to early commits.
And then yes, on top of thatâŚunder the new revenue sharing rules, schools can make official NIL offers. But they cantâ do it until Aug 1st, the first day of the NCAAâs academic year, when theyâre considered seniors. The salary might not be the most important factor in choosing your job, especially if employers offer roughly the same amountâŚ.but youâre still not taking the job until they put the number on it.
Trilly put in a bat signal for Aziz to Stanford. Letâs punish them later
