šŸ€ Favorite UVa Basketball Player

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Raleigh Harbour.

  1. I was at school at the same time as the guy.
  2. He actually played a bit as a walk-on during a Pete GIllen open try-out.
  3. He was a bartender at the Biltmore Grill in his spare time.

He wasn’t the best player in UVa history, but he represented the little guy and how far-fetched dreams can come true.

I mean he can say he played with Travis Watson, Rover Mason & Majestic Mapp!

He couldn’t shoot… shot FTs worse than Blake Buchanan… but he got his UVa letterman’s jacket!

Shout out to @4547Lambeth for sharing the sentiment.

I was there, and he did separate Jones from his jock on two spectacular occasions. I really regret that I couldn’t watch the Clemson game in the '74 ACC tournament when he put a behind-the-back-through -the-legs dribble on Tree Rollins and then dropped the ball in the basket. Stuff of legends.

Exxxxactly. I have vivid memories of my preteen self watching Fresh and Junior Burrough play……along with J Willy, Cory and Courtney Alexander, Singletary etc

I used to practice shooting 3s like Fresh. His shooting fascinated me. He’d come into a game and bam, lit it up. :boom:

If we’re veering off into the realm of players we feel a possibly-irrational fondness for, I have to mention both Kennedys, Mel and Drew. Also love the whole 1989 Elite 8 crew. Bill Batts! Brent Dabbs! Matt Blundin! Kenny Turner (whom I believe Fresh has already mentioned)! And of course a few others you may have heard of, like Crotty, Morgan, Stith . . .

Now these are some real dudes. Respect

When I was a kid, 1000% JR Reynolds.

Now that I’m grown, Ty Jerome.

I put them in categories.

As a little kid: Sampson

When I was old enough to know what was going on: Stith

In college: Deane

Gillen years: Hall

Leitao years: Reynolds

Bennett years: Brogdon

Overall — probably Stith. Dude was just so smooth. So clutch. I remember his buzzer-beating jumper vs. Georgia Tech like it was yesterday.

AO is the best. Love this

We had two gamewinners vs. GT in 1990. Stith in Atlanta — and … Kenny Turner in Cville!

If I remember correctly, 3D hit two looooong threes in the last 30-ish seconds to make that game a nail-biter.

We played atleast 4 different defenses this game and your boy guarded 6-8 Dennis Scott for couple possessions. Imagine their confusion

Very good pick. Also have to give Reeceā€¼ļø an honorable mention since Haney stole my guy RD

Also I answered SS earlier, and would have probably answered KG in 2019, but this is the only UVA player jersey I’ve ever owned…

Richard Morgan…every time he pulled up to shoot from 30 feet you went. Oh noooooyessssss as it swished through. The night he single handedly beat UNC by scoring 36 points was the most fun I ever had watching a UVA game. Wins against UNC were pretty rare back then.
