And you see all that stems from their parents. His dad was amazing on the pod and his mom was completely humbled to receive an Cavalanche of LRA gear!
I like āstress freeā games so Iām not complaining. Gonna see plenty of talented teams in ACC Tourney and NCAAās.
Yeah you can see his trajectory. Still raw (like a lot of our recruits) but if/when he develops an offensive game and avoids the defensive lapses ⦠total difference maker in college but it may not happen until he is in the NBA.
what happened to Butler? Is he playing in the G League?
Yep. Texas just lost last night on the road to 14-12(?) A&M.
Road games in conference should never be taken for granted.
Edit: lost to TTU i think?
Fun article ā¦
⦠but maybe this is where my pessimism on this team turns around to optimism ā barring an ugly stretch in the regular season or a round 1 loss or maybe an ugly round 2 loss (either a blow out or losing to a double digit seed), I think the season is already a success.
We are a near lock to make the tourney (or actual lock, I havenāt checked), Reece made a nice leap, we got some great PT from the frosh, and we had an awesome non-con.
I think a sweet 16 is a common answer to the question, but I think we have to realize we will play a team with somewhere around a 30-40% chance of beating us in the second round, and thatās not such a bad loss.
If we are a 3 or 4 seed, we are likely to play another top 20 team ⦠Probably a toss up game
Maybe closer to 50-50 game; youāre right.
Also, @hoopsandhoos makes the point that if we lose shy of the Sweet 16, it will be a āwhat could have beenā year like 20-21. And I know we all have differing views on that team ⦠but I think the key components in making 20-21 that kind of year were (1) the shutdown/pause post-Cuse and (2) Sam and TM3 having at least somewhat greater than expected NBA success. Could be my pessimism speaking, but the only way we have something akin to #2 is if Reece leavesā¦
Two of the current 6/7 seeds at bracketmatrix.com are Duke and Illinois. Those are two teams we played tightly with ā and won! But I think that gives us a decent benchmark of what to expect in that type of game.
I think @haney is close to right about this. I still say Sweet 16 is the logical landing spot for the team, Elite 8 if things break the right way with matchups but that looks like itās going to be tough to find.
Looking at Lunardiās latest projections Hoos are a 3seed and would match up with TCU or Memphis in the 2nd round. To @DavetheWave point most predictions have the Hoos on that 3-4 line and playing a team around the TCU/Memphis level. Enough to be a meaningful second round matchup that will cause some trouble.
Yeah, UVA would probably be maybe a 2-3 point favorite over most of those teams on a neutral court?
Feels about right for the spread. Thatās a point where location could bump the line .5 in either direction.
Might be a dog to SDSU if they land on the 6 line (currently there on Bracket Matrix).
If we lose that toss-up game, will you focus on the fact we lost to a worse seed again?
Shows tournament records by seed vs. other seeds.
A 3 seed wins 58% of games vs. 6 seeds. Vs. 11 seeds is slightly higher at 66%.
Crazy that people will judge your entire season as a success or failure based on whether you win a single game that you have a 70% chance of winning (2 vs 7) or even only a 58% chance of winning (3 vs 6).
Now that UVA is an orange blood, at least one of the following must be achieved for me to consider a season āa successā:
- An ACC regular season title.
- An ACC tournament title.
- A Sweet-16 run in March.
I think the answer to the question of what makes this season a success depends on your starting point. Is it preseason predictions, or where we are now?
Based on preseason predictions, the season is a success already. Even the most optimistic expectations were modest, and the team has surpassed them.
Based on where we are now? Iād be disappointed if we didnāt at least win the ACC title. I think we should at least get to the ACC Tournament finals, and at least make a Sweet Sixteen. If we reach some or all of those milestones, Iād consider the season a success. If not, I agree with Haney that it would be a āwhat could have beenā year.
(FWIW, I still strongly believe that without that COVID break, the 20-21 team would have at least reached the Sweet Sixteen.)
So which one would all yāall rather have? And the Sweet 16 run is without knowing what happens after that.
