Uh he’s had to sit a bunch recently because of fouls early. How is that ‘shutting’ on him?
Has Clark had to sit a bunch lately? He only had 3 fewer fouls over that same 10 game stretch, including 2 games with 4 fouls.
What does Clark have to do with anything?
Because you only ever call one guard out for anything. 16 fouls vs. 19 fouls in the same 10 games but only one is a problem. The “problem” is also widely considered one of, if not the best defensive player in the ACC.
Let’s call this season for what it is- nice moments, hope to make the tourney/make some noise.
I hope throughout the program, we have a minor shakeup/wake-up call needed to re-emerge to elite level- nothing monumental, just a bit of a punch in the mouth. A lot of good pieces headed into next year- and hopefully this “meh” year creates the fire needed to make next year (and subsequent ones) special.
Feel for Armaan there ooof.
I can’t believe we fucking lost
Gonna be absolutely awesome when we get put in the NIT, the games mean absolutely nothing, and Kody and Poindexter still play 40 mins.
The reporter who asked TB about the NIT… changed TBs mood real quick… sorry, awful question until after ACC tourney if you dont win that
Armaan seems really down but thinking I know how UVA players are he is going to work his ass off in the offseason and will be drilling threes next year.
Just from an emotion standpoint for him has to be tough. Makes a unforced turnover bringing the ball up, missed the 2nd free throw to go up 3. Hit the redemption jumper to go up 2, him and kihei are lit celebrating after the bucket. Just to get the buzzer beater 3 drained in your face. I’ll never watch the highlights of that game for the rest of my life. Feel bad for the seniors bc they prolly never will neither on their senior night.
Tony fields very few tough questions from local media - actually wish more were asked more often. Like lineup questions.
Sam Blum once did his job and called a source and Bach and the crew freaked the heck out. So did UVa fans. I’m not saying we need Woodward and Bernstein on the beat, but cmon.
Kris Wright asks hoops stuff, at least, but he doesn’t exactly play hardball. Though he elicited the most unintentionally funny answer of the year when he asked Taine if he had ever been a screen setter at any other level of hoops. Short answer: no.
Edit - to be fair, I’ve heard @brogdonfanpage ask some good questions, too. I don’t want to be negative on our media. Tony’s answers are Sphinx-like and he’s almost always pleasant and he’s going to the HOF so the reporters would just come off like jerks if they played hardball.
Here’s the issue with that if you’re working the Virginia beat you fall into. 1 of a few categories
1)New to the industry and breaking in. With aspirations of making it big. This means you have to do good work but you have to prove you can play ball.
2)local lifer. This is the person who’s been on the beat forever and is wooven into the program fabric. They are allies to the program don’t want to rock the boat
3)Working 1 of multiple beats. My guy from the WashPost does this. He’s working 4or 5 beats at this point and doesn’t have time to dive deep.
4)The @brogdonfanpage of the world and I’ve been this guy. Essentially a kid and still learning the ropes. Not their time or place ask the hard hitters. And would get creamed by the industry if they did.
Point being while it would be nice to have some deeper questions Virginia sports arent a big enough market to warrant those resources and efforts.
Good breakdown
I was out when the game was on and am watching it now. We lost to a meteorology TA and a guy that looks like a 70s pornstar? And ten 7-footers…
To be fair, the meteorology TA seems really good.
Franklin so much more comfortable shooting off the bounce / on the move.
Folks want to put a RS next to Dunn’s name, but Beeks, Dunn, Bond, and Shed on defense (plus one) will be fun and switchable. (Typed this while watching Reece defend Cleveland)
If I’m watching in real time and see Kihei’s 3pt play to go up 8, I’m thinking “game.”
Oddly for us, we didn’t milk the clock enough down the stretch.
Reece can’t cover 6-7 guys. Bond\Dunn…
Franklin so so SO SO MUCH more comfortable shooting off movement. Can we run plays for him to get 3 point runners?
Comeback story seemed to be high ceiling, young, athletic guys (mostly Cleveland) figuring it out at the right time. And their defensive length bothered us.
Anyone else think Tony needs to rethink last second full court defense? The opposing team generally gets a 30 foot or less shot off which is not the norm in that situation. Granted - the shot Cleveland made yesterday was a 5%(?) shot given the catch, turn, and quick release. If you think of yesterday, duke, and even going back to auburn i feel like we make it as easy as possible…
In my opinion, There was no reason for us to have 2 guys in the backcourt. Let them catch and shoot from 60 feet…
Eh, I don’t know. Tough to blame defensive alignment. We need more length on defense in general. It’s coming.
How did no one ask why Jayden Gardner wasn’t included in senior day ceremonies? Talk about an obvious story. I mean I know why but they’re so trained to avoid things like that, that they still won’t ask in a situation like that where it’s clearly in bounds.
