But would we be? A coach who comes in, letās be real probably brings in his own guys to play, does decent (letās be real again, UVA isnāt winning a title or anything remotely close) and jumps to say an SEC job and guts the program to take his guys with him on the next stop.
Extremely counter productive to getting donors bought in on the program to pay for a roster that bolts with the coach. Getting uva bought into football is tougher than most other places, would be much better suited with consistency than a one off winning season. Bronco had that and still couldnāt raise funds and money is far more important now than it was when we were in the Orange Bowlā¦
I agree that we would be better suited to have a consistent winner. But we have a long history of not having consistent winners. So to me Ryan Day is preferable to whatever replacement will look like (likely bad)
Honestly, I was mostly just shitstirring. Heāll take a year or two as an OC somewhere at a big time school or, more likely, the NFL, and come back as an HC somewhere. Iām not too fond of him personally, but I think he would be a good hire if he were an option. Still a pretty good offensive mind and has done a good job hiring assistants IMO.
Iām so despondent about Elliott coming back for this year I have a hard time seeing faults in other options. Anyone new would do it for me at this point (this will not be the case when we do move on, I will have many opinions then. Long live Jeff Monken.).
They havenāt all worked, but I thought the Chip Kelly hire was great at the time. Jim Knowles was a good hire and promoting Brian Hartline (and being able to keep him around) are pretty good decisions too imo. Retaining Larry Johnson when I bet every school in the country would like to hire him isnāt too shabby either.
We would be real dumb to pass on Ryan Day. He is 66-10 as a head coach and has won two BIG10 Championships and has a national coach of the year award (in 6 years). So thereās that.
But itās a non-issue because he wouldnāt consider it anyway unless his whole family went here or something like that.
Ryan Day has a 36 mil buyout if he gets fired and he makes almost 10 mil a year and heās been the HC at OSU for 6 years. Heāll be pushing 100 mil in career earnings.
Heās complained about people harrassing his kids at school and his family in public. I doubt he ever wants to coach in college again and I donāt see an NFL team hiring him as an OC when he doesnāt even run his own offense.
I can see him taking a few years off, maybe doing some consulting or TV work. He doesnāt need to work for the money, thatās for sure.
I mean he used to run his own offense, and heās pretty good at it. I could definitely see him taking time off, but I think NFL OC would be a really good fit for him.
Yeah I like Golden a lot. Iād take either ND coordinator tbh.
I worry theyāll try and lock in on a lower level HC this time though since the coordinator didnāt work out. Thatās the wrong move, but I see why theyād do it. I think the trick is to just hire a coordinator that his previous fanbase will be sad to see leave.
