Donations and personal investment to the program are more important in this exact moment IMO. If choice was give Elliott a year and get the contributions we’ve seen OR get a new coach and no $ I know what I’d pick every time. Not saying it was anything remotely close to that in reality but I give him credit for getting the financial backing we haven’t received otherwise.

Probably the logical sentiment but really feels like we are just setting money on fire for a year before the inevitable. Hoping to be dead wrong of course.

What scares me is that Chandler Morris’ awesome year came in an offense far more like Anae’s than Elliott’s. We saw what happened to the last QB who was very successful in an air raid who was later ā€œcoachedā€ by Des in the Clemson run spread.

And until we improve the o-line and fire Des Kitchings, none of this money-blowing matters. Maybe Chad Morris wants to coach his son as QB/OC. He’s got receivers at Texas State right now.

Never turn down money. What that investment signifies and has accomplished is worth any short term failures the program made encounter

If it was really multiple eight-figure donations, we could have cleaned house and paid $5 M for an upgrade who can recruit AND coach.

Meanwhile, we’re wasting another year or two and guys we would have had a shot with will move on to other jobs and become unattainable and unavailable.

I’m happy these anonymous dudes are putting money into the program, but when this fails, will they do it again? I have a feeling they won’t.

Our deep pockets are adjusting to the new normal.

You really think these boosters are gonna donate to Tony Elliott when his seat is on fire but will close the purse strings if things don’t work out?

They’ve given Tony Elliott a chance to build a respectable roster and perform and a respectable level. If he fails, he can’t say it was bc he didn’t have the resources.

If anything, it makes the next hire easier bc a future coach can see that we will invest, even in a bad coach :joy:

Bingo. This is sending out the signal that UVa is serious and willing to invest. New facilities massive NIL contribution and coach friendly. They are setting the table for 2026.

Sometimes you need to play the longtime to find true success.

Is Jahmeer Carter good?

He’s really old, if that means anything. Also really strong.

Dragon and Billy are spot on. Not going to attract any better coach without the infrastructure necessary to succeed. Hopefully Elliott and Co figure it out. Same as Ron. But if not both programs are being positioned for future success.

I’d like the monster from UNLV for the d-line

I was talking with Internet friends today about how we use to produce talented, big defensive lineman, specifically defensive ends going all the way back to Jeff Lageman. We had quite a run.

Yeah he’d be a big get.

Honestly I think the biggest impact Carter’s decision will have is potentially moving Terrell Jones or Tyler Simmons to DE. We’re pretty much set at DT now with Carter/Hammond/Britton/Osborne/Holmes.

This is a case and point of the money we’re all talking about. This kid touted a really good offer list and it’s about 20 teams deep. UVA not on there. Then a few days later we’re getting his first visit. Money talks and like I’ve said before we’re shopping in a different aisle.

Wingfield cancelled his visit. Wyatt visiting Indiana and gotta worry he’ll follow his former coach there. Reed visiting tonight but also has a bunch of visits lined up. OL continues to be the only position that gives me pause in the portal so far.

Otherwise the visitor list we have this week has a bit of everything…UNLV DE for pass rush, two DBs, and a WR from Washington State. Can’t say the staff isn’t working hard.

Bad OL + Des Kitchings is a recipe for something.

We’ve been trying for 3 straight portal cycles to find a startling tackle.

Sure starting to look like Tech is gonna hire Dex as their DC. He and Fontel coaching in Blacksburg is a really tough look for our athletic department (and I was/am not a fan of hiring him as our HC).

They are definitely willing to pay market rate+ for a starting tackle. I believe something will happen.

Next year itll be Golden with Beck/Dex.

Poaching a coach will be Scar pushing mufassa into the stampede of conference realignment oblivion
