The tag in / tag out method seems to work well for situations like this weekend where there are so many different locations (more than an AAU weekend)

There 19 2026 recruits with UVA offers.
What matters is who they recruit. TB settled into only offering players he intended to recruit over the years. Which is a position of privilege to be honest, wasn’t always like that. That’s not how most coaches do things. Offers are just made when they need to be made for the most part. You figure the recruiting part out later. Sometimes it’s just an attempt to get your foot in the door, or to keep players in play in case you might want them later.

My charitable take is that it might just be a less-polished version of how tennis academies work with Laurel Springs ( Accredited Online Private K-12 School | Laurel Springs School), the online school that seemingly every high-level tennis player in the US goes to (3 UVA MTEN players, 1 UVA WTEN player), where they outsource the school part to someone else, and provide some academic support while mostly focusing on the sports side of things. But just saying your academic partners are accredited while having no information about who they are and who provide the accreditation is not ideal.

Same HS as David Punch so staff have familiarity with program (VCU was in his top 5 out of HS)

Kansas Offered Billy ‘Blanco’ White. Still have a hard time seeing us pull the Texas kids out of Texas let alone the blue blood offers they have, outside Gibson who staff did a good job prioritizing and relationship building early

Continues the trend of VCU coaches not doing quite so hot at their next school (for various reasons, don’t @ me Will Wade) and far better at the school after.
Hopefully Odom breaks the pattern.
I would imagine that the early identification of talented prospects is more dependent on the coach’s contacts within the basketball community than on his evaluation skills.
I guess that depends on how reliable and qualified to judge players in a wide variety of competitive contexts the contacts are. I’ve definitely seen players that looked amazing in their HS/AAU contexts, whose game didn’t translate to higher level competition.
