🏀 General Summer 2025 Portal/Recruiting

The MVP in the NBA is a 35 million dollar free throw merchant. So if you consider that 3 million is a steal.

If state strikes out on PJ and Darrion Then that’s honestly a really disappointing off-season all things considered

Dante always picked the weirdest times to transfer

There were two opposing possible takes on the Wade hire there… (1) is that given his reputation of “strong a** offers,” playing the game long before it was legal and permissible, he was as well suited as anyone to thrive in this new environment, arguable ahead of the curve. Or maybe (2) with the new rules now in place, he’s lost his defining competitive advantage in the recruiting space, and now is going to struggle hanging with other power programs that are every bit as well-resourced and willing to spend as he and State are.

Crazy he still has eligibility

Two aspect to this: (1) can you get talent, and (2) can you coach the talent.

I will have to come back later and discuss #1, which is what your post addresses, but just want to point out for now on #2 that Wade has also done a good job with his talent.

Can he still even enter the portal and be eligible next season? I thought they made the grad transfer date the same as the regular date.

Good question. Maybe if he sits out a year? That way he’ll be like 27 years old for his final season.

Dante would need a waiver to play next season, assuming he stays in the portal. The deadline is just to be granted immediate eligibility. If a player wanted to do it the old way and redshirt next season, they could still transfer anytime. Harris could pull out and stay at Memphis too.

On the “can you get talent” piece, I think Wade’s main differentiating factor at LSU was a willingness to … let’s say… “bend” the rules.

At McNeese it was getting more money than peer schools and finding creative revenue streams (like Aura Khan).

Ironically I think he’s done fairly well at NCSU so far because his reputation has caused donors to pony up.

As @EmbracePaceUVA just posted in another thread, I like how Odom and Aldrich found a creative way to not just get more $$ (which they seem to have) but figure out a way to deploy it quickly/aggresively.

Tweet deleted. What did it say?

Guy went private on his account, but it was about how there were only a few guys 6’7” or over who shot under some bad threshold from 2 last season, and K-State is gonna have two of them next season (the Monmouth transfer and the Bowling Green transfer they just got). Basically a “K-State is bad at portal” post.

Offering a bag of money isn’t a skill. If there’s a skill, it’s in hiding it, and he wasn’t very good at that. But now that skill is no longer needed. All that’s left is a clown that needs to show he can coach. And I’m hoping he can do that and with all kinds of attitude, just to see UNC and Duke get pissy.

Ugh Dwill to NC State and Dame Sarr to Duke tonight

SportsCenter NEXT on Instagram: "Team Takeover’s Jordan Smith Jr. (No. 4 ESPN 100) was extremely efficient to open up EYBL Session III, scoring from all three levels and shooting 82% from the field 💪 @nikeeyb"

Takeover just annihilated Boo Williams

Finally in front of a computer and looking over box scores/streams for the Nike eybl weekend that’s currently ongoing.

Personally not a fan of Adolph. I get the appeal; sound offensive player who can do a little bit of everything and also a good defender. But feel like he’s a floor not ceiling guy and in college bball guards are the bloodline. Saw Purdue is heavy on him and that makes sense, he reminds me of the tertiary Purdue guard type who can body up a little and play off the creation Painter usually has at the one and two.

Jordan Smith Jr is good still.

Christian Gibson is a high volume guy. Efficiency has been questionable at times and a little turnover prone but wired to score. How he moves and plays still reminds me of Armaan, the best power forward for UVA basketball post natty.

Boo Williams has been atrocious this aau season, but Dreylan Creasy (The Blue Ridge wing) really has had quite a few good games. That and his length and athleticism, really want us to take a flyer on him if do a 4-5 man HS class as a development piece (which still exists despite the bemoaning of fans talking about the death of the sport, still plently of development and 2-4 year players out there. Might increase with retention with revenue sharing).

No idea if Adidas or the other circuits have been active.
