šŸ€ General Summer 2025 Portal/Recruiting

He’s the best player in his class in my opinion. I know a lot of people really like Tyran Stokes, and he is definitely up there, but idk Smith is just overwhelmingly good. The talent and athleticism are unreal.

If he develops any consistency to his jumper he’ll be in the pros for a very long time.

I’d take him over any other 2026 kid, by a good amount too. Which again is strange since at 6-2/6-3 he’s not really a pg or a sg.

He’s just so good. It’s going to kill me seeing him suit up for Duke

Virginia on the contact list which makes sense. I’m sure Cade Lemke is fighting for UVA to recruit him too

Cade is probably pretty excited about a new staff. Know that Blue Ridge staff felt really snubbed by Tony. Was even a comment that when the new staff went to see Creasy it was the first time anyone from UVA had been at BR in years.

Christian Gibson (#5) and Dreylan Creasy (#11) are about to play each other Court 2

Julius Avent for PSA Cardinals (who has mentioned UVA interest) has been really good this summer.

Not the biggest fan of Luca Foster who staff offered last week.

I’m full on delusional now with how we worked the portal in us being able to knab Jordan Smith Jr and throw in Christian Gibson why not. Derrion Ripley Jr, the Blair pg, is also legit.

Honestly just go after the entire Team Takeover backcourt. Smith, Samuels, and Moody.

Will UVA sign a recruit from Texas in the 2026 class?

Christian Gibson’s most recent follows btw (and already follows Aldrich who was on him day 1 of being hired at UVA)

Texas is the most niche recruiting state, having relationships with key figures there is everything. Marco Anthony was UVA’s only scholarship player from TX in the last 20 years. Coaches know that you either have the right connections there or you don’t really try. It has opened up a little in recent years though.

For a long time, the Texas AAU scene was its own little universe…lots of top players would play on local AAU teams instead of joining the big shoe sponsored teams. The reason was…before recent NCAA changes that cut down on evaluation time, there were several weekends coaches would go out when there weren’t shoe circuit events. And all the TX teams would play in one location. So no matter what team you played on, you would be seen by the coaches who recruited TX.

Griff is obviously UVA’s in…TX seems to be his main focus. But Matt Henry went to college in TX, and Bryce Crawford spent a few years on the Texas staff. So they really know the scene well. Gibson is a serious target, they’ll be in it all the way with him. Expect they’ll try for several others before it’s over though.

Just noticed that Dreylan is averaging almost 9 3PA in EYBL play (shooting a solid 38% on them). All of his highlights are him absolutely launching from outside the arc lol. But…he is a 6’8ā€ guy who is shooting 41% from 2 so that does worry me a little.

Very much a 3 and D wing/forward. More Murphy than Hunter.

Julius Avent has been playing really well so I wonder if we eventually offer. Of course the dream is Latrell Allmond

Dreylan hit seven 3s in a game this weekend. I haven’t really watched him at all.

This account is starting to get EYBL highlights up, here’s Dreylan:

Cloer:

Smith Jr:

And more.

Posted before fully watching, but holy hell Jordan Smith Jr in transition or otherwise going with a full head of steam at the rim is something else. I just watched him bull through his defender on a simple straight line drive and two hand jam it out of nowhere.

His ball skills look like they’ve gotten a lot better too.

Yeah, Smith might be the single player I’d most like to see on the team atm. I have no idea how he would have slotted into a CTB roster, but the guy just knows how to play. I think Odom could do a lot with him.

I remember a Texas guard that Bennett recruited somewhat recently, then soured on him and stopped recruiting. What was the name…Austin Nunez? Was that a talent evaluation decision or a practical lack of relationships issue? Looking at Nunez’s college stats, seems like a talent decision.

Early covid dead period offer…they never even got around to seeing him in person. Kihei said he was leaning toward staying for a 5th year so they stopped recruiting PGs that spring.
