So ahh…perhaps some bad news on the student visa front.

ā€œThe administration is also ordering all embassies and consular sections to stop scheduling new interviews for student visa applicants, according to the cable, dated today and signed by Secretary of State MARCO RUBIO.ā€

I would think de Ridder would have done that a while ago. Esp if the org goal was to be here by summer session.

Hopefully he has. I think you have to be admitted before you interview, so hopefully he committed some time ago and everyone’s just kept it really quiet.

Does Bruce Pearl running for Senate rumors hurt Auburn’s recruiting?

Tuberville’s running for Governor, so if he wins that’ll leave an open Senate seat.

Moderately surprised at RJ Luis, Jamir Watkins staying in the draft, they haven’t even been in the second round in a lot of mock drafts. Very surprised at Labaron Philon returning to Alabama, he was in the late first-round consistently in the mocks I had seen. Otherwise, not much of interest at the withdrawal deadline, probably a function of there being less early entrants (which itself is related to college compensation increasing).

Agree on both, although Trilly insinuated Luis really had no other choice at this point (no takers for the price he was asking). Everyone is full at his position and/or out of funds. Wonder if the same happened to Watkins. Really wanted him still on the board as a potential de Ridder fall back. Some of these guys holding out for a ridiculous number so late in the process really screwed themselves. Luis, Claude, Watkins, Haggerty, etc all probably could have gotten 2mil+ early in the process had they jumped. Holding out really cost them.

Since there’s been a lot of talk about Jordan Smith and how he could potentially be #1 in the class, posting this clip for no reason at all…

Maybe bad agent advice, though the portal market dynamics seem to be changing each year, so I can understand getting the timing a little wrong.

Yeah Watkins was an obvious pivot. I really hope that De Ridder isn’t denied after the deadline and leaves us looking in a much crappier pool with a bunch of guys we could have enticed out of the draft playing on 2-ways next year.

I understand hold outs to a degree, but I feel like most FA periods in most sports have the most dumb money fire first. Spending dumb is definitely correlated with impatience!

Luis went early, idk what his deal is, but Haggerty misplayed his hand to an insane degree imo

Hoping, in that scenario, we can sill pry a decent European player from their club team with the funds we had allocated for him. Might be an issue time wise (certainly wouldn’t get them here by mid June) but would rather get a better player here in Aug than just a body here in June.

Exactly. Why it was very very smart of Lewis, White and Hall to jump on our big offers immediately

Tahaad coming back keeps hope alive (dimly) for a Tahaad-Elijah matchup, in college hoops.

With Watkins and Powell staying in the Draft, as well as Kowacie Reeves’ waiver getting approved yesterday (see below for article*), I’ve got only a few ā€œTBD’sā€ still with major effects on ACC rosters to track this summer:

Aly Khalifa at Louisville - NCAA had a total headscratcher for his medical waiver denial, which I assume is being appealed / litigated.

Luke O’Brien at Georgia Tech - radio silence on his assumed medical waiver request.

And of course De Ridder for UVA and his NCAA eligibility request.
