Virginia is now one of the last 3 schools (along with UConn and St. John’s) that are still undefeated in both men’s and women’s basketball. By the end of today, we might be the only one left standing!
UConn women trail Notre Dame by 17 at the half
St. John’s men trail Iowa State by 11 at the half
And both lost, so UVA stands alone!
I’m almost positive Virginia has never before been the last undefeated school across both basketball programs. Most years neither program escapes November without a loss – for both to do it in the same year, especially given the tough men’s schedule and the depths the women’s program has just emerged from, is pretty damn impressive!
Didn’t see this posted in the Michigan game thread, so dropping it here:
I wonder about 92-93 We were 11-0 at one point not sure on the womens side and they were great
Women’s first loss that year was December 30. Men didn’t lose until January 20ish.
Yes. I was there for the mens loss ha
Indeed. Iowa was the last program to remain undefeated in both that year. Women lost on January 3, men on January 6.
Oh that’s right, we still had the Burge twins that year, and a bunch of other good players from the F4 teams. I had graduated but was still around and went to a few games. Looking back I kinda took it for granted that both programs would remain at such a high level. Now that we’ve got Bennett and Mox I’ll be sure to appreciate it.
Man how did you not include Dena Evans! Yea man we were all the same year. Love love them girls. We were all so close as friends
