I don’t care much about jerseys tbh but that video is awesome
Did we send jacari to a nuclear bunker after that game?
LOL
Yeah, flashbacks on scooter accidents. I ran into Thjis tonight and had a nice short conversation. What a great guy! He’s very intense on the court but a good guy personally. I’m so proud that Coach Odom paid for guys that still fit the UVA mold of good people. There’s been no character loss at UVA with this NIL stuff. I was sceptical at first but not anymore.
Just looked over Butlers roster, Jamie Kaise Jr? Blast from the past there. Also, do they play a lot of small ball? Center only avg 18mpg.
They platoon two centers. SMU transfer Yohan Traore comes off the bench.
A bunch of familiar names on the Butler team. UVA sorta tried for Michael Ajayi in the portal a couple years ago, he’s since moved on again from Gonzaga. Jalen Jackson’s name came up this spring, IPFW transfer. Jack McCaffery and Jackson Keith both get a little time as freshmen.
Virginia -4.5 open, implying Vegas sees Northwestern and Butler about equally, which is a little surprising to me, my priors were that Northwestern would be a few points better
Between the Vandy & Villanova scrimmages, and the early OOC, really feel like this team will be tested/ready for ACC play.
Kaiser!
I’m seeing up to -6.5
I think I’d still take the Hoos to cover, if only to bank on 3 point variation benefitting us after Northwestern.
Excluding pre season rankings, Butler is 40 on Torvik and Northwestern is 27 (their efficiency got a boost from exceeding their offense expectations against us).
Finally got a chance to watch some extended highlights. Dallin Hall clutch gene! Page looked like a monster. That’s it. I think I’ll be able to actually watch today.
ESPN shows Hoos -7.5
Yessir! Fresh tuned in!
A few random notes on Butler:
- They don’t get much from their bench. They played 10 deep and the 5 off the bench contributed just 14 points against South Carolina. Four of their starters played about 30 minutes. Their 6’10” center Drayton Jones was the outlier with only 18 minutes. That’s a problem for Butler because they’re otherwise undersized against Virginia – Ajayi is 6’7”, Jackson is 6’2”, Kaiser is 6’6”, and Bizjack is 6’4”. Expect De Ridder and Grünloh to feast inside, especially as they wear Butler down. This feels like a good game for Grünloh to go off.
- Butler hit 42% from 3 point range against South Carolina, above their season average of 40%. So much for the theory that it was the ballroom that made Virginia shoot so poorly against Northwestern.
- About half of Butler’s scoring comes from just three players: Bizjack (16 points), Ajayi (15), and Kaiser (12).
- Butler shoots – and misses – a lot of midrange jumpers. Their shooting chart against South Carolina would make an NBA analytics guy cry.
- Ajayi is their leading rebounder AND leading in assists. He does a lot of things well, but he’s not a good shooter. Still, he’s not shy: Ajayi took fully 30% of all shots attempted by Butler against South Carolina.
- If the whistles are blowing like the wind again, a free throw shooting contest favors Virginia. Butler is hitting just 65% of their free throws, and their three leading scores, Bizjack, Ajayi, and Kaiser collectively average 70%.
Honestly feels like a good matchup for us
Is that disney on Ice?!
Sure is. The Let It Go was quite good but the Maui hooks are obscenely expensive. I must say Bridgeport CT is lovely this time of year.
