šŸ€ Greenbrier Tip-Off: Virginia vs Butler, Sunday, 23 November 2025, 1400, CBSSN

The fact that the game just ended at 4:21 and didn’t go into OT tells you everything you need to know about how the refs called this game lol

We actually beat Northwestern by the predicted spread.

Butler has clearly played well and analytics have them as more than an average team.

The doom spiraling is the obnoxious part, it’s happened every single game this season at some juncture.

Every five minute run has to be projected into some statement that we suck and that we’ll be lucky to make a tourney.

I mean it’s the same people saying the same shit every time lol. With some it’s across multiple boards. And it’s absolutely doomerism.

It is what it is though. I’ve gotten mad at people over it in the heat of the moment before but it’s not a crime to be down on the team. We didn’t play particularly well today.

Biggest issue for me is this was the first time they played with a real lack of control and maturity. Get a 50-49 lead, immediately have a breakdown. Get it down to 4, turn the ball over or get stagnant. Penetrate the lane, make an overthought decision. Chance felt a bit out of control offensively, Grünloh played completely out of whack, Dallin regressed and the defense was quite bad.

Still, there’s good to come from this weekend. Get out of ballroom and get shooting back in rhythm, build on Sam’s confidence, get TDR’s right and get back after it.

Butler was favored by ESPN’s matchup predictor.

Lots of other things to improve on, but the stat that jumps out is free throws, both # and %:

Butler 20-29
UVA 7-15 :face_vomiting:

Chance was 3 for 12. I am glad he was trying to make stuff happen just ended up forcing a lot of things. He will learn. Love the motor.

I know we’ll keep improving and all that, def think we are a top 5 team in the league but that’s a bad loss. Was basically a home game. We just shit the bed to be frank.

All the talk about our defense but it was more than good enough in the 2nd half. What killed us is we missed a number of clutch FTs and wide open 3’s, along with three or four stupid turnovers on big possessions. It’s a game we should’ve won but didn’t play well. It happens.

The overreactions are insane for a team that doesn’t have any continuity. Talent only gets you so far. Odom has work to do but setting or resetting expectations at this stage is lame. Almost every team in the country has had a stinker or two, or has glaring holes at this point. That’s pretty much the norm for teams in this era

win would have been nice there and we should have gotten one

Glad Malik has shown up though, that was turning into a real concern for me

1-1 on the weekend is fine. Doesn’t derail anything for the season.

Defense is a concern but we knew it would be. We can be a tournament team with this defense but we need the offense to shoot better than 30% from 3 and 50% from the free throw line to do it. That was not a good enough offensive performance for this team.

Thijs is the only big man that should be calling his own number offensively. I don’t want to see the others trying to initiate offense in the half court anymore unless the mismatch is staggering.

I don’t ever want to do this event again though. Crappy court, crappy refs, not good enough teams to make it worth our while.

I cant believe he wasnt better at rebounding. Only 6 for Chance (ducking)

Butler was favored by ESPN matchup predictor. Not sure I would call it a bad loss when it was a toss up at best going in.

I’m sick of you ruining every game thread. And you call yourself a fan!*

*Okay you called yourself a fan one time, which is admittedly low sample size

Grünloh- is….young

Thijs- was a shell of himself oncegot challenged.

Long story short- even European Pros can’t replicate the American college game.

It’s a good indicator of where we are as a team. We went 1-1 against two teams who I could see being on the bubble, though I think Butler might be better than that. There’s a lot of potential, even a lot of defensive potential, but the biggest glaring weakness has been ball screen defense. The coaches know it’s a current weakness and will surely devote attention and practice time to it. I’m not the least bit concerned about this team’s ceiling or this coaching staff.

Some people just lack patience and/or perspective. If you’re going to live and die with every second and complain after every little 7-0 run by the other team, especially with our style of play, you’re just going to be miserable and piss people off on the forum.

It’s a quad 2 loss at worst, maybe quad 1 if butler can be NET top 50 - that’s not a ā€œbad lossā€.

@jphat007 made 28 posts today that were some variation of our defense sucking, a player sucking, or resetting expectations.
