Give me the over on that (although shooting strokes in a convention center make me nervous)
Okay, I just took another peek into the ballroom. There are 7 rows of bleachers on either side and 7 rows behind one basket. The other basket has a few rows of folding chairs behind it. There’s not a bad seat. All fans are very close to the court. I’m going to have to make sure to hold off on my opinions to the refs. They’ll know where to find me. All the teams had practices this morning, probably just walk-throughs and shooting. I don’t know what seating capacity is but I have to believe it’s well below 1,000. I can totally believe some of your comments about the low ceilings messing with their brains but with a couple of shooting practices behind them, they’ve probably gotten over that. If I can figure out how to get a photo from my phone to this site, I’ll send.
So I guess the court ends where the carpet begins. That’s good because you don’t want a carpeted court. Is there even room under the basket to bring the ball in? And on the sidelines too
Oh wait I see there is a bit more out-of-bounds area before we get to the carpet, nvm
I want a seat on the stage
Sorry if this is overly harsh but that’s a fuckin middle school gym. This makes the Suncoast Arena we played in at the Fort Myers Tip-Off two years ago look like Madison Square Garden.
Instead of towel boys they have the janitor come out with a vacuum. And when the ball gets wedged into the rim, that same janitor comes in with the broom to dislodge
I don’t think some of you realize how good we are. Hoos by 15.
Also, I hate broadcasts putting on the screen “team x last fg was 5 mins ago,” especially when they’ve scored 10 straight points at the free throw line during those 5 mins. It’s annoying af and misleading.
I hate when broadcasts are like “Team X has not scored in over an hour of real time”
There are some times when it’s legitimate, painfully so
You see that screen they hung in the corner? Some kids from the AV club are going to project a slide show of the game
It’s pretty shabby, but as long as the rims are still at 10’, I say we whip ass in the cracker box we’re scheduled to whip ass in.
Also an “atypical” court/playing surface.
How the heck did we end up in this tournament?
Is it true that because the court is carpeted, dribbling is not required tonight?
Saw that one live and laughed out loud. They replaced it pretty quickly with a graphic for the run over a shorter period (say 5ish minutes). My better half thought I was being…much…about it.
You know, sometimes you find validation where you least expect it. Thanks Reddit (he said once and then never again).
For the few minutes I watched Purdue Memphis, dudes were slipping all over the place. Painful memories of the Richmond debacle v Michigan State
Gyms like that are great for shooters. Once you get used to playing in arenas the backdrop being so close makes you feel like you can shoot jumpers from mid court
Yeah - totally agree with this. The more open space around the hoop - the harder it is to shoot - throws your depth perception off
Richmond Coliseum back in the day literally had hockey rink under the floor. Slippery all game
