I’m ignorant of all this…but would it about getting on a summer league roster? They need bodies and for the players it’s a chance to keep showing themselves for overseas teams or whatever.

I think it has more to do with that. Summer league rosters gleague rosters. Potential overseas options. There’s a lot of spots that need to get filled.

There’s a place on summer league rosters and on G League rosters for older, heady point guards to run offense and distribute for the young, high ceiling but raw guys the franchises are trying to develop. London Perrantes spent years in the G League filling this role.
