Ty Jerome for MVP! Great discussion about Ty in the imbedded video
Thatās beautiful. Hell, Tony Bennett knew this. Then, we all knew this. Go Ty!
āWhereād he come from?ā
I mean, this is the guy who put up a stat line of 20.3ppg, 7apg, and 6.7 rpg across the E8, F4, and NC games (cough, sorry Kyle, Ty maybe shouldāve been F4 MVP), and theyāre surprised(?!) heās clutch. Heās just been unhealthy the last couple of years.
Post-hype former 1st round pick with an injury plagued early career
I totally get the hype and the surprise from fans who were not in-tune with Tyās collegiate career. For an outsider he was the third wheel on the Championship team. His NBA career has been suspect at best due to injury. So I donāt blame Cleveland fans for being surprised about the emergence of Mr. Jerome.
I think itās mostly the fact that he was banged up for so many years. If he was doing this even in year 2, the name would resonate because of what he did here.
But 2019 natty is now 5+ years agoā¦
Real feel like 20 years somehow (ago)
Honestly a lifetime ago for all of us. The world was a different place.
And like @haney said Tyās basically been nonexistent in the non UVA basketball world since then. So easy to understand how people are now surprised by him.
Like many things, it feels like a lifetime ago and also only just yesterday.
Ty, Kyle & DeAndre will forever be joined in UVa hoops historyā¦and remove one and we donāt have the success we didā¦but Iāll always be a little partial towards Ty as far as picking a āfavoriteā. Not by a huge margin, but a little bit.
I really hope Hunter gets healthy and improves his trade value. As it stands Iām not sure who wants to take on the remaining 3 years and 70 mil left on his contract and I donāt see the Hawks wanting to attach draft picks to him to shed the contract. Hopefully he can get into a better situation for himself though.
I may or may not have a child that shares a name with one of them⦠and another with the name of a different UVA legend.
Not named purposely to be named after them but I wasnt opposed to that additional tie in. My wife picked both names not even considering the connections and shes a massive UVA fan.
Blessed that Hunters 1 fully healthy college season coincided with Ty and Kyle being fully healthy and Braxton not breaking his hand til the following year.
Hunter and Ty both injured in high school and the pros before and after.
Yeah, itās been a long five years since the national championship, both basketball and otherwise. The other day I was looking back at my history with UVA basketball, which started around 1980 when I was a teenager. If you are an old timer like me and take the long view, UVA basketball has been a really good product during my 45 year super-fandom-- making the NCAA tournament 26 times, the sweet 16 ten times, final 8 seven times, final 4 three times and one national championship. Looks even better when you throw out the brutal Leitao and Gillen years. So as long as UVA doesnāt hire a head coach anywhere near that bad, Iām optimistic there will be plenty of great times to come almost as good as the 2019 championship.
Perspective right there
When you put it that way Iām fired up.
Iām almost 51, and I said about 20 years ago that Iād die a happy sports fan if UVa hoops ever won a national championship, and the Redskins/Commanders won one more Super Bowl. I took the 3 of my youth for granted.
God bless Tony Bennett & Jayden Daniels.
Well, it was nice knowing you.
