🏀 Hoos in the NBA 2024-25

At least Ty found a spark there at the end.

NBA playoffs v regular season different intensity. Teams come out to play. Wish cavs had done better. But the playoff games are entertaining as so intense

I understand that Ty had had a couple of rough games recently but I was really surprised (pissed) that he didn’t get a chance sooner. It wasn’t like the guys getting his minutes weren’t playing like doo-doo. In fact, I thought he might start him the second half. Then when things got even worse, he still ignored him until late in the quarter.

Oh well, at least Ty was in the middle of the first Cleveland excitement once he got in. Tough dude. He and Hunter were about the only reasons I watch NBA games.

I second this… NBA doesn’t excite me… but having those two on the same team gives me some vested interest.

Tough spot for Ty for sure. I do give the coach a slight pass because while the offense was bad at times for the Cavs their defense was awful. They couldn’t get a stop when they needed one on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, Ty doesn’t bring much on that side of the ball, especially when Haliburten is the opposing PG.

I’ve been talking about the Cavs signing Jerome to the Early Bird since the beginning of the season, but I think Mobley winning DPOY ends that possibility. Now Mobley’s contract starts at 30% of the cap instead of 25%, which is 8 mil more. Now the Cavs are 15 mil over the 2nd apron with 10 players under contract (assuming 4 minimums fill out the roster). That’s over 100 mil in luxury tax too.

Honestly, I don’t know if the Cavs can even keep Hunter next season. 24 mil for a 6th man is a luxury, especially since the cash cost with tax is like 80 mil.

From The Athletic today “This is who they are. Acquiring DeAndre Hunter at the trade deadline ensured the Cavs will be a second-apron team next season, barring some drastic subtractions…At best, they can retain Ty Jerome, whose stock crashed considerably in this series. He remains a better option than most anyone else available in free agency since the Cavs are primarily relegated to league minimum free agents as a second-apron team.”

If I’m Cleveland, with the news coming out of Boston, I’d look at semi-blowing up team and lose some ground to gain ground. The East is going to be wide open and it’s pretty clear the Cavs are a true No.2 from being a full on contender. This could be a time to swap some salary.

Hollinger went deep on the Cavs today: Where do Cavs go from here? Big offseason questions loom after surprising Pacers loss - The Athletic

Yes, the Cavs can likely re-sign Jerome using his early Bird rights, but a $10 million salary for him will cost the Cavs … (checks notes) … $62.5 million.

What’s the midlevel exception gonna be next season? That’s what they’re going to be competing with.

Celtics should trade Tatum for Giannis (I doubt Bucks would take that over a stash of first round picks and young pieces for a full tank and rebuild)

Jerome’s value soared this year. This last series reduced his value. But his value definitely increased a lot. Congrats to him.

@DFresh11

Saw someone say his player comp would be Van Exel. No idea who that is. Quick Google search shows older player.

Don’t know Nick Van Exel? Man, I’m too old

He was always fun to watch with Cincinnati in college and, in his prime, the Lakers.

Smooth, lefty sharpshooter.

Ya… Van Exel was a player.

NTMLE and Early Bird are always about the same. Around 15 mil next season. Three things to remember about the NTMLE: 1) any team that uses it is hard capped at the 1st apron, 2) only 1 team used it last year to sign a player for the full amount, most teams traded into it or split it up between multiple players and 3) there’s not that many teams below the tax, maybe around 10.

We played Cincy our 3rd year in the Meadowlands. They were real. They beat our ass and Nicky V was real. Check the box score. He killed Cory A and not many ever did

We lost by a lot 71-54. And nobody on this thread scored a single point. I had a mask in warmups due to my broken nose. I went 11-12 in layup lines.

I remember that game.
Sweet 16 after UMass and Calipari.

I actually did an externship with the Nets in the Meadowlands the next Spring Break. Huge blizzard hit NYC.

That game is actually on YouTube. Not sure if they show the warmups!
