Saw that Tahaad measured at 6’0” barefoot even though Auburn only lists him at 6’1” (rule of thumb: team rosters display shoe height, which adds 2 inches)…give him 6’2” Auburn!
Hey, they had some great teams in the early 60’s too.
Bruce Pearl was trying to keep him for 2 years instead of 1.
Maybe he grew since Auburn measured him.
I dont think he is 6 feet
I wonder if NBA teams are gonna guarantee more of the contract for second rounders to compete with college compensation, or if they’re just gonna be like “cool, we don’t mind you going back to college for another year of baking”
My guess is the latter? Starting like ten or so years ago it seems there was a big push to have all sorts of NBA developmental paths that were in their ecosystem (G League, Ignite, growth of 2-ways).
But they’ve already gotten rid of the Ignite. Feels like they’d probably be happy for college to be more of a pure minor league that it was for a while.
To be fair, a lot of what the NBa did was in response to international leagues trying to market themselves as a developmental league, esp NBL in Australia. And now college is even taking some international guys…
Yeah good points. In hindsight, it does make sense that eventually college basketball would realize “oh wait we have the most money” and outmaneuver all these other developmental leagues for the best 18-to-24 yo players that weren’t ready for the NBA.
Yeah I think letting them go back is a little inconsequential. If the NBA thinks a guy has legitimate potential, they draft them in the 1st round, no matter how raw they are.
So if a guy is a second round guy, they don’t view them as being important enough (even in the long term) to try and keep in the draft with higher compensation.
The biggest value to 2nd rounders is cheap multi year contracts… unlike college the NBA teams have salary caps
Second round is gonna be limited to guys who ran out of NCAA eligibility. Plus a few guys who just cannot handle/stand college and maybe some guys who mistakenly think they are first-rounders.
2nd round contracts are not guaranteed either correct? So they can be cut and not paid if stuff doesn’t work out… that wouldnt be the case with a NIL player payment.
First rounders get only 2 years guaranteed plus team options on years 3-4, then restricted FA. Teams aren’t required to guarantee second rounders anything, but maybe a pre-draft promise to a guy would include a guaranteed year to keep him in the draft.
I feel like a lot of teams in the 40-60 range try to make a pre-draft deal with whoever is on their draft board that’ll take the least amount of money.
But in the upper part of the 2nd last year there were a few guys who got 2+ years guaranteed by otherwise capped out teams who could sign only draft picks or vet minimums.
Second round contracts are completely up to the team and the player to negotiate… Tons of flexibility for teams making it valuable now for those 10 through 15 slots especially for teams that are overpaying their starting 5 guys.
These playoffs are just brutal… now Denver without a key player for game 7…
Down to 4 healthy teams - OKC NY Indy and Minny.
First 2 rounds should be best of 5 series.
Houston the only other team that was healthy when they lost in the playoffs.
An article written in relation to the trend…
Blame it on the AAU circuit not the NBA “grind” kids legs look like swiss cheese by the time they hit college. Get some sport diversification as a youngin build up the other muscles and nervous systems.
At least in the Tatum and Thompson case.
Wholeheartedly agree here… about 10 years ago I assumed I was in the best shape I could be in… but our team physio told me my back muscles were obscenely weak and it was going to result in an injury if I did not build them up. When I started building them up… I had no idea I even had those muscles to strengthen.
