Knicks built a team to beat the Celtics, not to win a championship

Not terribly surprising, but also doesn’t solve the issues that cost the Knicks the ECF

Congratulations to future New York Knicks Head Coach Michael Malone

I know Thibs has an expiration date at every job, but it seemed like he was still pushing them up and they hadn’t taken a step back yet.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Knicks front office seems pretty competent these days, so I trust Leon Rose and crew.

Knicks FO has been actively good. But they are kinda in a ā€œwe can’t obviously upgrade the roster, but we can change the coachā€ situation.

Yeah. I’ve generally liked what they’ve done, especially in acquiring and stocking assets for when a good trade target became available. And the Brunson contract was structured really well. But they probably gave up too much when they did decide to spend their assets in trades. 6 FRP (4 unprotected), 1 unprotected pick swap, 3 2nd round picks, Randle and DiVincenzo for KAT and Bridges. And now they have no assets left to trade and they’re above the 1st apron already.

And the Nets are up to what, 9 FRPs and a pick swap for KD so far with Cam Johnson still available for trade?

I’ll take Thibs on the zards only because watching the player revolt would be great entertainment

As a Knicks fan, I’m mixed on this. I thought he got thoroughly out-coached by Bickerstaff and Carlisle (and the Celtics series could’ve easily gone the other way if they had made a few more open threes). Because of that, I just don’t think he’s able to scheme well enough to win a title.

On the other side of things, Thibs was very good at establishing a winning culture and I don’t know that there’s a better coach available right now.

Nahhhhhh. Not the right time for the kind of coach. Need to tank one more year bc Knicks have our pick if it’s not in top 7.

That’s where I am with Thibs. He doesnt do enough to set up his team on offense to be effective. The culture and attitude is a winning one but they can’t overcome the talent and coaching gap with that.

Looks like our old conference foe Brian Gregory will not exactly be the most empowered GM:

Ishbia gives off terrible owner vibes, honestly. The platonic ideal of an owner is probably…Steve Ballmer? Not afraid to spend and puts all of his meddling energy into the non-basketball operations side, like ensuring his arena has enough toilets.

I need Ryan Dunn on the Wizards with THIBS running him 40 minutes a game

I’m sure it’s just a huge coincidence that the new coaching hire has a masters from Michigan State.

I wonder if Ishbia’s using the early Mavs Marc Cuban model of ownership involvement or the past 20 years of Jerry Jones model of a dual owner/GM role.

Keep Thibs away from the Zards and for the love of RDs career keep him away. That may be the one place worst for him to develop

An assumption is that all GMs are competent which isn’t the case. Phoenix has been atrocious and spend crazy money. I totally agree with Phoenix owner taking over. Can’t do worse. Get great scouts, analytics guys and support staff and be involved and the decision maker.

Ishbia made the Durant and Beal deals himself. Durant was like the day he bought the team or the day after since it was trade deadline. He’s been taking advice from Isiah Thomas for these and other deals and not listening to scouts and analytics people.

His involvement and decision making IS the reason they’re as bad as they are. He can certainly do worse and probably will if he’s even more involved.
