Hard disagree. Two really good teams. Not always pretty to watch but this Thunder team has one of the best defenses in recent memory. And so much depth. A worth champion and could be the start of a dynasty
Compete for what ? Not everyone can win
It but that team could have made the Final
4 still if healthy: especially in the East:
White
Pritchard
Brown
Horford
Porzingis
2nd apron is doing exactly what the majority of owners intended, make it impossible to build and maintain a team by spending more than everyone else. This is the anti-Warriors, anti-Clippers, anti-Suns, anti-Celtics contingent. I hate it. Itās not any fun to follow a team thatās really close, but canāt make any moves to improve due to 2nd apron restrictions against aggregating contracts in a trade or taking back more salary than you send out or freezing future draft picks so you canāt trade them.
Man, if thatās all, and the only thing teams are competing for then⦠what is any college team doing every year? You try to win as much as you canā¦. Stupid lottery system keeps bad teams down.
Iām a wizards fan so you donāt need to tell me that. Just saying I understand why someone wouldnāt pay an insane level of tax for KP and Jrue. They should trade Derrick White for some assets too
I see the Celtics dismantling as 1 necessary because of the Cap but also it could be a smart bridge to the future. Remain competitive keep the culture while the super star heals and aquire assets to surround him when it comes back so you hit the ground running
I think @AdventiveQuasar already called it out but there are the cost considerations, but also the roster/trade restrictions and future draft pick penalties.
Why would the Celtics impose those restrictions or trigger those penalties for a year theyāre unexpected to compete.
I do think we have more parity in the NBA as a result. Some of that might be also attributed to shift in style of play, analytics and some aging stars in my opinion.
My only gripe is that I think the lottery system has penalized bad teams a bit too heavily but that still may be more recency bias as a Wiz fan.
I donāt know when this message board became a place to talk about the Celtics, but this article from Michael Pina at the Ringer analyzing their two trades and the path forward is pretty good. To make it vaguely UVA-related, Pina briefly mentions that Hauser is probably on the way out.
