Good for him; I sure as shit donāt get paid to practice my passion.
Me neither.
You need to go to Dragonās Professional Development Course. Realize your dreams.
Bagging on Groves for playing ball in a low-rent league skips over the fact that heās still playing ball.
I think thatās cool, and would rather focus on him pursuing his dreams rather than the level of the league.
Nothing against Jacob or what heās doing. Multiple things can be true at once. Iām happy heās chasing a dream and getting it done. Heās also playing in a league that is financially stressed and struggling.
Also as someone who made a professional career out of bouncing around Europe and playing in lower level professional leagues for little money and even tinier crowds I think I am most qualified to comment in this situation. I know what itās like to chase that dream and did it for 17 years and wouldnāt take it back for anything. I can also laugh at the absurdity of the situation compared to what could have been if I was just more talented.
Not bagging just reality.
A lot of guys start out in low level Euro leagues too, I think itās encouraged. Like Gardner dominated in Belgium last year and moved up to a much better league and presumably payday this year. Expect youāll see Jake move up next year too.
Great point. They are proving grounds. You get a taste for being a pro, see if you like it. And you can showcase your skills. If it works out you take an invite and go up a level. Canāt imagine any of these deals are for more than a season.
Nice game for Dev in the Euroleague for Fenerbahce:
His stat line is modest for the season, but heās played significant minutes in all their games; in the domestic league they can only have 7 non-Turkish players on the 12-man game day roster, and they have more than that on their full roster, so itās a meaningful achievement in and of itself.
FYI - the game notes for the Campbell game have a rundown of Hoos in the pros both domestic and overseas. Learned a couple of things about guys I had lost a little track of:
- Darion Atkins is in the Turkish 2nd tier league, playing for a team that has a website for a name.
- Armaan Franklin is in the Israeli top tier league.
- Braxton Key is with the Clippersā G-League team.
- Nigel Johnson is in the Mexican first tier.
- Akil Mitchell is in the top tier Chinese league.
Nigel Johnson still out there getting it done. Congrats to him for being a trooper.
I thought he was cut? Though they still have rights
He was cut from their NBA roster but Iām guessing heāll be on their G-League roster. heās listed as being on their G-League ātraining camp rosterā
My bad, youāre totally right. Migraine since 6:40 this morning and still canāt think straight

Jayden highlights
Solid night
This is a cool Jayden highlight where he scores the game winner exactly as his coach drew up - turn up the audio.
(Also recognize that hair on the inbounder? Itās Tyger Campbell from UCLA)
Heās playing with Mike Bothwell, from Furman. His agent is Pete Mickeal (Cincinatti). I love how overseas hoops is a cornucopia of remembering some guys.
Unfortunatelyā¦.it appears Jake may be hurt (or suspended)
