Honestly it won’t be that bad… since there won’t be multiple leagues involved and multiple competing tournaments w/ promotion/relegation going on at the same time… it should be pretty easy to follow.
However… due to the fact that there aren’t multiple leagues and no real promotion/relegation… I don’t think this tournament will be that exciting to be honest. What are the stakes really? It’s just redundant games outside the regular season games.

They’re just desperately trying to find a way to get people to give a shit about NBA games in the middle of the season. I think a giant chunk of their fanbase don’t actually tune into games unless they’re big time match-ups or the playoffs. So they’re looking for something, and, as noted, people like single-elimination tournaments.
Might also be an attempt to get tanking teams to give a crap for a portion of the season. Although I don’t know how attractive getting this random trophy will be to them. Feels like you should get something else if you win. Maybe if they gave you an extra ping pong ball or two in the lottery it could get spicy.
