This is why I think late flyers are so risky. If wrong they could soak up roster spots for 4 years. Doesnโt mean no, but means we should gave a very high bar.
Is 41 points in a 32 minute game good?
Wing athletes only or straight knockdown shooters with a handle that are at least 6-2โฆ thatโs my list for flyers.
Harold Deane
If that scenario played out Iโd be going out of my mind insane. I legitimately havenโt been this excited about a first year player since Justin Anderson
Time stamped. If you watch the 2-3 minutes you see Shaedon Simpson hit 3 3s to start the game on a 9-0 run.
He reminds me of a less developed Terrance Shannon Jr. 6-6, hits open 3s, 41 inch vertical. Might also just be a lazy comparison cause Shaedon has that white black duo hair color going like Shannon at Texas Tech.
Would be fun to see him 2 years with Mike Curtis, Damin Altizer, and Tony developing his defensive skills.
Chattanooga, UNC Ashville, St. Bonaventure, Liberty, New Mexico State, Mississippi state, and a bunch of other mid major coaches now follow him. Not skyrocketing but steadily increasing his name exposure.
Why would you help off of him?
His team has a bunch of shooters too
Thereโs a wing at Ryan Dunnโs old school LuHi that is semi-blowing up right now and he is literally everything I want in a wing (maybe more consistent from 3)
Long armed, fluid moving, intensity on both ends of the floor (watching his highlights makes it hard to watch Caden diggs soft highlights but it also makes it hard to watch Kon Knueppel on the defensive end)
Smooth and has body control
Hot take alert โฆ Kon is a plus defender โฆ seems to be in the right place a lot - which Tony values.
Heโs a good help defender and yeah in the right spots at the right time. But iso and on close outs very slow. Guards are hideable in the packline however.
He is very smart and well coached. Thus the excellent positioning. He is a mediocre athlete with high IQ and great skills which tends to fit our profile. If he was a plus athlete he would be 5 stars and headed elsewhere.
Exactly you canโt make someone who is unathletic super athletic.
You can take a raw athlete and make them skilled and higher IQ after a few years of skill development and watching film with Tony.
I keep going back and forth on Abraham and Knueppel. When Abraham goes to Villanova and Kon ends up at Kentucky (and Shaedon Simpson ends up being a mid major star who gets 6 figures from an $EC school in the portal 3 years from now) it will be a sad day.
But who is UVA going to get in this scenario?
Some kid who is currently a 6โ2 guard with only D2 offers who is about to undergo a 4-5 inch growth spurt in the spring and then have Tony at his aau game last weekend of July and who ends up being the best of the bunch.
I think I spammed about him some when another tweet a few months back mentioned UVA reaching out to him. Shooting wing. Perimeter 4 man imo. Good 3pt shooter and solid athlete.
Thank you for providing links to all of these 6โ6-6โ9 wings with potential. UVa SHOULD be able to land ONE of these guys every two years. Hopefully we will continue to recruit them.
