šŸ› Introduction for new member (Hav's Playground)

Excited for tonight! Games are way more fun than reading message boards. Hope everyone has a good spot to watch, great food to eat, cold drinks, and old friends to watch with with!

-Hav

P.S. Just a quick reminder that 25% of the guys who start in the Final Four tonight are from Virginia.

Dealing with Acute Post-Season Depression (APSD). I can’t bring myself to watch transfer-portal highlight tapes yet about kids I have never heard of. I guess it’s a growth opportunity for me in the future but I’m not there yet. Embracing The Masters, the NBA playoffs, MLB opening day, and Virginia baseball. I am entombed in bad cycle of poor dietary choices, sleeplessness, youth sports driving/coaching, and mediocre hygiene. Keep me in your prayers these next few weeks @BDragon.

Most importantly, remember to tune in on Saturday April 16th from 9-10 am for Lockeroom Access on ESPN radio in VA!

Are these episodes going to show up in the podcast feed, too? Thanks! (Perhaps a question for @Merch )

Interesting quote from Dabo Swinney on the Transfer Portal….

ā€œMy transfer portal is right there in that locker room…because IF I’m constantly going out every year and adding guys from the transfer portal, I’m telling all those guys in that locker room that I don’t believe in them, that I don’t think they can play,ā€ Swinney said. ā€œWe’re also not doing our job as coaches and recruiters if we’re bringing in a bunch of transfers.ā€

Totally agree with this.- especially the second point. He has several other interesting takes. Here’s the article if you want to read it in full:

Given that we don’t use plug and play systems, we’d be much better off stressing retention and development over yearly portal shopping. A guy like Braxton or Hauser as icing on the cake is a no brainer, but we’d be wise to limit the necessity of hitting the portal hard every offseason.

Hopefully the 22 class is a big enough hit / good enough fit across the board to help us stabilize the roster going forward.

I’m sure I will eat my words in 2-3 years, but I like continuity. And I like familiarity for a team. Hired guns may become the norm, but I am more in favor of getting it right out of high school, and then developing kids. But I’m old school so perhaps I will be proven wrong.

I’m all about culture and to build culture you need continuity. There’s a reason Duke and UK don’t win as much as they should given the talent they have yr in and yr out. I’m all for the transfer portol but i think teams should approach it like quality NBA or NFL teams do free agency. If there is a game changer Remi Martin type then go get him. Otherwise the portal is for plugging holes and adding depth while your core guys hold it down and set the culture.

Who’s won more in March than Duke and Kentucky the last 10 -12 years?

All newly recorded episodes will be posted in an extended form as podcasts, and some radio content will be excerpts of recent podcasts. Each radio show will be 4 12-minute segments.
