Please drop your questions here…
I plan to do my traditional rapid fire questions during the pod! Hype to see this tonight and appreciate y’all for doing this!!
Ok, semi-serious question (for everyone): how invested are you in seeing the Hoos win the Gator Bowl?
On the plus side, it would set a new season record for wins, it would be great for the coaches and players, and it might boost the program’s standing a bit going forward.
On the blah side, I’ve kinda moved on to hoops, I don’t feel the same anxiety/anticipation I felt during the regular season and the ACC Championship, and there’s some residual disappointment left over from the Duke loss.
Overall, I’m really happy the team greatly exceeded expectations and won 10 games. Outstanding season! Just not my normal level of pre-game nervousness this time around.
Always take w’s and build momentum for next season! I also see this as an opportunity for some younger guys to play and ball out!
Ha. My kids never sleep
I thought the adage was that they would sleep in May?
Update… we are delaying until 9 pm EST due to kids still being awake.
Expanding on that, how are you feeling about non-CFP bowls in general? What with players opting out and the major focus now on the playoffs
@dave92 For the last 33 years, my brother-in-law has sponsored a bowl pick-em pool. Each entrant has to pick a team against the spread, the over-under, and which team scores first. There are far more bowls today than there were 30 years ago, and in recent years, it has become more chore than fun trying to make all those predictions. Plus, I found others spent far more time researching bowl games than I had time for, so of course, my picks haven’t been competitive for quite some time.
This year, my BIL did not sponsor the bowl picks tournament. With the CFP and very short time between conference championships and the initial bowls, plus with teams decimated by NIL, transfer, or draft-motivated dropouts, it’s become more of a farce than ever. BIL made the right choice.
So in short, no I don’t really care about bowl games anymore. College hoops works for me.
That’s the biggest thing for me. It gives the impression that these games aren’t important to the players, so why would they be important to me? What was once The Postseason (the most important games of the year) is now Exhibition Season (just some extra games for show).
JB, Dragon, Jazz – great podcast! You captured my views on the Gator Bowl (and bowls generally) to a T. Also good discussion of the portal. I am cautiously optimistic, but we shall see.
Podcast is up on Spotify, Amazon & Apple! Enjoy!
Appreciate that.
As i sit at a bar watching a bowl game i cant help but to be amazed at how meaningless they are now.
Its a shame. This couls be an opportunity for programs and players to show out. Instead it’s something i put on to put my kids to sleep at bed time
Bowl season can be useful for teams if they just use it as an extension of spring practice extra practices for all the underclassmen and folks coming back, but of course we don’t know who’s coming back anymore either so who knows???
That used to be my logic for bowls. But with the portal. You may end up with 20+ new players in 3 weeks so I don’t know how much help those training sessions really are.
