Yeah I agree, no chance in you know where that we land this kid.
Idk if you have any way to answer this without watching it play out more but how does Sanchez’s return impact J Willy’s role on the trail?
I don’t know that it changes anything for Williford. At least in July, it seemed like Sanchez was sort of the sub for Bennett when he couldn’t be there, doing final reviews on recruits. Everybody they’ve offered a scholarship to was seen by either Bennett or Sanchez at some point this summer.
And he’s bringing back a west coast presence, which we really haven’t had since he left. I think we’ll see more west coast recruits and probably a few less in the midwest, just swapping Getter’s base with Sanchez’s.
Did Sanchez land west coast kids while at Charlotte? Quick 247 scan says no. Is he reviving connections from before at UVA/WSU?
It’s not like he’s only going to recruit players from the west coast but yeah he was always UVA’s west coast guy. Each fall, he’d make his road trip sweeping through. I remember the first year after he left, Soderburg did that…and that was the last time it’s happened.
So I know @HoozGotNext mentioned they see London Jemison as a 2025 more than a 2024… but
Jemison (who is seen as a possible reclass back to 2024 and redshirt to 2025)
vs Hodge (who is seen as a potential step into Dunn’s spot/back him up role)
Bliss to 2023
Kon
Somehow Niko Bundalo reclass (and have him Bond Kon and Buchanan all share minutes at the 4 if Dunn is done)
Jemison reclass and redshirted as the developmental wing successor to Leon (Jemison is very much more of a guard in my eyes even though he will play 3/4 for us most likely)
David Punch redshirted to 2025 as that glue guy forward/small ball center and developing behind Niko who has that early pro potential
And then Jackson Keith in 2025. BOOM. Find a lanky raw rim protecting west african to develop behind Buchanan and Robinson.
I’m not too excited about Hodge. Hasn’t shot the 3 well and not a good rebounder …What am i missing?
Forwards dont get to do as much in aau. Hodge isn’t nearly as high on my preference list (lol like my preferences mean jack shit) but he’s much more skilled than he gets to show in AAU.
I thibk it is his first year in USA and AAU is so different for foreign guys.
Yea, i hadn’t thought about that. Adapting to basketball here coming from overseas is tough for most players
I like Hodge. None of these guys that we are recruiting for that spot are good at everything or they would be going to Duke. I believe Hodge hit something like 7/9 3’s in a game the weekend before Peach Jam. I really want someone at that spot who can shoot. He seems athletic and needs to hang out with Mike Curtis but I think he has a lot to work with. I also think he comes from a good family and will be more patient that some others which I think is true of quite a few of the guys that we have brought in the last couple years.
Just doing the math: As I type, I believe that there are 12 scholarships in use. I imagine time is getting short for any prospective recruits reclassifying to 2023, so let’s not consider that possibility. It could happen, but it seems unlikely to me. There will be three certain openings at the end of next year as Beekman, Minor, and Groves will exhaust their eligibility (yes, Beekman has that bonus year available, but does anyone really exxpect him to use it?). So, as of now, there will be four scholarships to use for the 2024 class. Bliss has taken one, which leaves three. First, does anyone expect the staff to use all three remaining grants? Of the remaining offers outstanding to members of the 2024 class, would it be a mistake to view a power forward (one of Hodge, Punch, or Cofie) as priority #1, and Kon Knueppel as a the #1 luxury recruit (followed by Trent Perry)? That would bring the roster back to 12. It gives the staff some wiggle room if a very desireable mid-year transfer shows interest, and any premature attrition next spring can be addressed with the transfer portal. Or, am I missing something quite obvious?
And, just to throw a monkey wrench into the 2025 recruiting discussion, even if Dunn does enter the NBA draft next spring, without anyone else transferring, there will only be three grants available (Murray, Dunn, and this year’s unused scholarship). And Dunn’s departure is hardly a sure thing. There’s also the portal to consider. So, WRT 2025, there don’t appear to be very many openings. It could be a very small class.
I also think the fact that he seems the most like a stretch 4 is important. We’re lined up in the frontcourt the next few years, but we’re missing shooting there. For me, shooting is a non negotiable for a 4 in this class.
I think there is also a pretty good possibility that Harris doesn’t use his 6th (Covid) year.
You may be correct, but I have a suspicion that it will be one of those unknowns until the spring of 2025, which suggest his departure may be addressed via the transfer portal as opposed to next summer’s recruiting of high school players.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a grad transfer after this year. I think he’s here for 1 or 2 years tops. Nothing against him, but I think he very well gets passed. Not sure if he’d start at all, even if he stayed 3 years.
Makes me literally sick to recall how we shytted the bed with these guys vs Cuse (folding in the 2nd half). I damn near was in the process of buying my flight and booking a room during halftime. Lol smh
We were loaded with those dudes that season.
