Lacrosse NCAA Tournament Thread

Wow. I just caught bits and pieces of the game earlier, and last I saw was early in the 4th. I was like “Wow, is this really how their season is going to end?” I’m glad they pulled it out.

Bryant may have given ‘Hoos the best possible gift to prepare for Georgetown. The team had to really go inside themselves trailing 10-8 late in 3rd Q to get the win.

UVA will need Petey to be sharp at the X, as I have my doubts if the ‘Hoos can beat the Hoyas in a shoot out. G’town is the most precision shooting team UVA has faced all season, and they are extremely athletic. What they did to Cuse was no fluke.

Petey winning 65% of face offs, edge on lose balls, limiting turnovers, defense being physical/pushing Hoya attack out of their spots, and Rode showing his experience in the cage are the keys for me.

Collegecrosse gives Georgetown over 70% chance to win…

I wouldn’t put much stock in that win% probability by Lax Ref. It’s based on an analytical tool that Lax Ref describes as a beta version. For example, the Lax Ref win % probability for UNC (#1 seed) over Rutgers (unseeded) in their quarterfinal game is 61%. Anyone who follows college lacrosse closely will tell you that Virginia’s chance of beating Georgetown is much higher than Rutgers over UNC. Personally, I’d predict the UVA/Georgetown matchup as a toss up, which is what you would expect from a 4 versus 5 game.

Up 4-1 after the 1st. Defense looks really good.

Good strategy knocking the Georgetown face-off specialist. Just kidding, but I didn’t really see how he got hurt… not saying he was faking, I just couldn’t figure out when it happened.

I don’t know much about lacrosse, but that LaSalla goal was awesome

Up 10-1 at the half, I’d say this is easily our best showing of the year so far. Nice to have a blowout after the nail biter against Bryant last week.

Special to see the hometown kid have a game like this

Geez, Shellenberger is just doing whatever he wants. On the last goal, not sure why Gtown is doubling the guy who doesn’t have a billion goals today. Nice little flip of the pick direction on Shellenberger’s 4th goal, it’s cool to see some of the similarities between bball and lax strategy.

Rutgers couldn’t quite get it done and UNC wins 12-11 in OT. We split the regular season games with the Heels.
