Live period - April 21-23 2023

Well true, but I guess my controversial opinion is that substantially less than 100% of the people we don’t think will become Trigga will become Trigga. If anyone has a “this guy will definitely become Trigga” detecting machine, then please lend it to staff. But in this case, it’s moot, because we’d all love Jarin to come even if he’s just a poor man’s TM3.

Remember when I said Trey Murphy 3 reminded me of Anfernee Hardaway watching his Rice highlights? And I got major pushback from that…

No. You are making that up.

All recruiting is a crap shoot! No one really knows, but I bet Coach Bennett has a better idea than most.

It’s easy to sell 3 and D when you have a history of JA, Hauser, Dre, Trigga with Dunn in the chamber

Yeah I’m just going off of what people are saying today lol- that they see him as a “scorer” and not a defender…I wonder what his 3% is though? How does his stroke look?

He shot it decently well this weekend. I only saw take a few perimeter shots. It looks good. Struck me more as good for a big than good for a wing, but if he can shoot that well at 6-10, it gets a bit academic.

Not sure if any one else watched, or is familiar with his game, but I’d love to hear folks weigh in on what he could do in the near term (next 2 years or so).

Thomas Sorber with a Crystal ball to Georgetown. Would help us down the line with Ngongba taking Georgetown out of the equation.

The #1 thing for him is he needs to put on quite a bit of lean muscle, he’s got a pretty good handle but tends to get pushed around on drives a bit which leads to less assertion on offense and losing some battles on the boards. I think that’s why a lot of UNC fans have maintained he’s a pretty raw prospect even for the 2024 class, the skill and finesse are there to be a wing but he’s gotta grow into his potential physically. He’s a good shooter, not close to being Trey Murphy yet but can get there with more time and practice. I know it’s repeated over and over again by our fanbase but one or two offseasons with Mike Curtis would do wonders for Jarin, get him up to a still lean 225 lbs and he can be a lottery pick.

I don’t think he slots in as a starter or even one of the first couple guys off the bench if he joins us next year, but I still wouldn’t redshirt him. Get him some PT and allow him to make mistakes, it’ll pay dividends come March and for next year if it speeds up his development.

Jarin is so far ahead where Trey was as a junior in high school. Trey didn’t become Trey until his junior year of college.

Trey was as late a bloomer as you’ll find in high school, going from a 6’4 guard to a 6’9 wing basically over a summer after any big time programs had a chance to see him. It took him a year to get acclimated to his new height but he was pretty damn good as a Sophomore, he just played on a really bad Rice team.

Jarin is nowhere the 3pt shooter Trey Murphy is and I think it’s a gap that may not be overcome.

At the same time Jarin has some moves in the post and the ability to put it on the floor vs a defender that Murphy didn’t have.

I dont watch Jarin and think “This kid is a guarantee to be in the NBA 2024 draft”. I think “this is a kid who after 3 years (maybe 2, BIG maybe) of development will be drafted”. As to whether he camp sees that or not I dont know.

But after watching this weekend even taking off my blue and orange glasses, I have no doubt UVA would be the best choice for Jarin’s future. He needs to go somewhere that will develop him. UNC’s development track record under Hubert Davis is non-existent along with barely playing his bench and him showing willingness to easily over-recruit kids with the portal HEAVILY every year (UNC ranked last in the entire nation in playing their bench young core. Their board has talked about how they wish they had impact freshmen like McKneely and Dunn/even wanting to tamper to force them to transfer to UNC lol).

Jarin reminds me of a higher ceiling Dylan Disu at Texas (who coincidentally announced his return to Texas today).

Not a heavy 3pt shooter but a skilled forward. Higher ceiling in that Jarin has more athleticism and that 3pt shooting ability.
