Here’s a Sperber analysis on a lot of things, but I wanted to point out the Colorado State offense in particular. It’s really fascinating to hear why a coach implements certain concepts and where they came from.
Medved’s CSU offense is a blend of Forwards out, Princeton, Belein 2 guard and 5 out. Reading it, we have guys who could do better in some of those concepts than blocker-mover.
Before Bennett would make any sort of concept changes, I think he’d be deliberate in determining how that would affect the flywheel of the complementary offense and defense.
Think for CTB it’s “what keeps you on the floor” once you’re out there. Wilkins D, Guy 3, etc. he’ll give some chances but you need to show your value, doesn’t matter what it is
Anybody else think Mr Taine Murray should be starting? Felt like during Iowa he showed the highest ceiling of anyone on the roster and to do that as a first year is impressive to an old man like me. Think he can be a big time player.
Yes it is hyperbolic. But offensive role is so secondary to defensive readiness and role that it seems irrelevant. Most of the examples otherwise, and there aren’t a lot, are where a young player has exceptional offensive abilities, and good enough defensive ability to fill whatever opening there is.
The Jerome, Guy, Kihei examples follow departure of Perrantes and apparent dissatisfaction with Shayok. Kihei surely was brought in early for defensive skills, not offense. But if it takes national championship caliber players to break into a rotation early, then yes I hope the ‘22 class pushes its way through. Taine and Igor evidently haven’t.
Iowa Nebraska Purdue Oklahoma Mizzou Creighton are the early players. But I like him more than the DC shooting guards (Lamothe and Jacoi). Seems like a better shooter and better athlete as well as having longer arms.
Lamothe is a poor man’s keels. Jacoi Hutchinson is solid but he’s like rodney rice; a combo guard who wants to be a point guard.
In terms of the early combo guard candidates that we have had activity with Id prefer Parker over Jacoi and Lamonthe. Players like Jared McCain and Taison Chatman seem like long shots.
He’s a North Carolina kid, so I’ve got to believe he grew up wanting to play in the ACC. That said, he’s very highly ranked, so I’ll believe he’s coming to UVA when he signs his LOI.
I told everyone a he is not coming, we don’t win this kind of recruiting. He is stalling for something else. That’s why his decision is always delayed. We the charlie Brown and 5 stars are Lucy.
My guess is he is seeing what kids in the '22 class are doing and will bring to the program. That’s the core group he’ll play, plus Milicic and Murray. A few guys on the roster will be gone by the time he arrives, unless he reclasses to 2022.
And once again, I heard over the last week. Johnson to UVa is gonna happen publicly when he chooses to announce it. One of the things that leads me to believe it is look who UVa is targeting now. I think they are checking off guards with really no mention of 2023 PGs from what I’ve seen.
I’ll add this, I know people are up in the air about this season. Personally, I think Bennett is in the process of retooling the roster beginning with the 2022 class for one more run. I think a strong class in 2023 lays the groundwork for another Final Four/National Title run.
