It will be interesting if Indiana pursuing Bryce Hopkins give us our own staff hope that the window is still very much open with Trey Kaufman (I mean you never stop recruiting regardless), hence no announcement on a Ben Gregg offer (at least not publicly made known)? Bird in the hand is my preferred approach but there is no need for that in 2021 with #swingingthefences or move on to 2022. I do like Ben Gregg’s game a lot however.
Also I still doubt we get Bryce Hopkins, but could Tony see him as our big guard if we dont get keels? Watching highlight he is very much a 6’6/6’7 guard/perimeter oriented player with a nice looking 3 pt shot but also shot blocking capabilities.
Also also: Turgeon is trash but they are one LSU buzzer beater and one canceled post season, where they were top ten, away from changing the narrative.
That being said Bennett is 7-1 vs Turgeon I believe and Terrell Stoglin can eat it
There seems to be a debate on the IU board if they would be able to take both Hopkins and Kaufman (if both guys would actually come with the other). The fan boys say of course, but Brian Snow said nope, so that’s def something to watch.
On Gregg, his recruitment seems to have gone deafly silent. No chatter at all on AZ or OU boards. I wonder if we’ve asked him to hold off just a bit …
Ditto ditto ditto on UMD. I know this is big talk, but when in the league they were up there with Duke in terms of my rabid dislike! And Turg does less with more than just about any coach in the nation.
I’d be interested to see if they’d take Gregg in that 3rd “best available” slot. So big guard, Kaufman, and Gregg as the class. I don’t think they like taking another big there but TB can do some unconventional stuff.
I think he wants to redshirt and get acclimated to the US in terms of academics and the type of basketball played here. Reclassing helps him get the redshirt out of the way early and lets him adjust earlier/get on the floor earlier.
That being said if I were him I would stay put as well, play some minor league pro ball in a safer area.
I don’t think they would take both Gregg and Kaufman with us already having McKoy Murphy and Shedrick on the roster. I think they would rather use that “next best available” on a center who will redshirt or on another guard in the positionless basketball/4 guard era or pocket it for 2022
Article that mirrors a lot of the 247 article. Not having visited grounds, not being able to meet the team in their bubble, and not having the open schollie for him to redshirt all working against us.
Kaufman is definitely the better athlete and has higher potential, but I really like Ben Gregg’s passing ability, deep range, and he seems to not shy away from contact. Would also add to our collection of players who have won Gatorade player of the year in their state
It’s tough UVa couldn’t get Kaufman in for some type of visit. Kinda feels like that is the one missing ingredient. With that said, no offer to Gregg yet makes it seem like Bennett and company still must feel okay where they are with TK. I think it was a couple of weeks ago when Gregg mentioned he would be making a decision in the next month or so. As time ticks, seems like an offer won’t go out. Since I just said that, watch one go our in the next couple of days.
