Let’s hope Day 1 did not kill @Hooandtrue’s bracket!
C’mon Akron, lets get going.
Will never happen but if (when) they expand to 76 it would be cool if they protected the top 12 regular season conference champs in the NET, kind of similar to what the NIT does with host sites.
This year would have protected
P5
Gonzaga
Utah State
Saint Louis
Miami-OH (replace this with the Pac-12 champ next year)
(All getting in anyway)
Plus
USF (ended up getting in anyway)
Stephen F. Austin
Belmont
Essentially a way to guarantee 1-3 of the eight spots go to mid majors. Could put in a stipulation that they need to be top 76 in the NET or something like that. Maybe I’m crazy but I feel like Belmont giant slayer possibility would draw better first four ratings than an Arizona State anyways
Santa Clara…same mistake as our Hoos a couple of years ago. Always foul up 3 with a couple seconds left.
I don’t think you foul in that moment. He made an absurd shot to tie it. Just gotta live with that
if you foul, you secure a 99%+ chance of victory, if you let them shoot, you’re at 70-80%. The math is clear.
If Sendek had been able to call a TO Santa Clara would have won. UK was very very lucky.
Iowa St hung 55 in the first half. Jefferson went out early w some sort of ankle injury.
It’s not: https://kenpom.com/blog/yet-another-study-about-fouling-when-up-3/
This paper is a good read too, has a nice chart on recommended strategies: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2402.13289
In the Kentucky situation, I would not have fouled, because the time was so low and UK was on the wrong end of the floor… presumably the best shot they could get is one like the one they got. (Plus you don’t necessarily trust your guys to avoid a shooting foul.) That was just a freak shot.
I really don’t want to play Miami Ohio
Tennessee will be ahead of us in Kenpom with a solid performance today lol
(sometime in the not too distant future) “Grandpa, tell us about the days when some commercials didn’t have Duke basketball players in them”
Doubt that’s gonna be an issue
Gillespie is gonna be a tough cover but if we can limit him we’ve go a real good shot.
So far, that looks like an understatement. Miami looks rattled and demoralized already and Tenn is on a 21-4 run.
Edit - As expected, Tenn looks big, strong and physical.
Would be nice if Miami made them work for it a little
Hofstra making it interesting…Bama still up 7 with 6 mins left
Brown II on Tennessee is a freshman?!

Yeah, looks like he just turned 19, so he’s significantly younger than Chance. Which is wild, but that’s what it says.
