The French Canadian hockey players pronounce it more like MAR-teh.
Martin Brodeur
Martin Biron
Martin St Louis
Only Carrere I know of is Tia and she’s Filipino-Hawaiian and Tia Carrere is a made up stage name anyway.
This guy is a French author.
“Slim”

Ok, this is off-topic, but my all-time favorite of the pronunciation guides:
Mortin Cah-rare-ee said in thick southern drawl
As long as Martin doesn’t “carry air” balls, I’m good with it.
Omg, thanks for that! As someone who frequently checks pronunciations on YouTube, that is one of the funniest accounts I’ve seen, especially when he mocks the French dude that does so many of them.
That guy cracks me up. “Today, we are learning to pwonounce the traditional Irish girl’s name ‘Roisin.’” His smooth whisper is hilarious. I kinda think he’s in on the joke and bet he’d be fun to have a beer with.
Some more context on Carrere being called up for the France U19 training camp:
That observer also expects Carrere to make the final roster.
Gonna be butter this year!!
I think he has potential to be a better Tillis. Potential.
His game is nothing like Tillis. He’s more of a wing. Should be a great shooter, which is why Odom brought him along from VCU. Clearly thinks highly of him
Here’s the real upside and, I think, the best pitch for Carrere long term… it’s also where I think they’re hoping he will end up given how they often played him this year:
Big PG.
Whenever they brought him into real game minutes, it was always an off ball spot, like the 3. And that’s fine… but he’s not overly inspiring to me as a SF (definitely not a PF) who doesn’t defend very well. There are a million stretch 4s out there - you can live with some but the ones you’re excited about can defend their position really well in addition to being able to shoot. He’s also got a long way to go to be a strong enough player to hold up to those defenders or on defense. But whenever they brought him into a game to close it out, he was normally running the point and other viable options were playing off the ball. It’d have been pretty easy just to run him off of screens or have him spot up in the corner if that was the developmental vision for him.
Now, if you’ve got a 6’9” PG who can just be a colossal size mismatch on opposing guards, can still shoot it, and can do the whole big PG thing… that’s very intriguing and has a high ceiling and is worth seeing if you can make it happen. If you can’t, no worries, it’s not going to hurt his game to get more reps running an offense and practicing his handling.
Of course, he still has a long way to go to be able to do that effectively within the core rotation - but if we’re considering Carrere as a longer-term prospect - that’s where I think the juice is and what their idea is.
If he’s like a primary Sam Lewis back up next year… fine, I guess you see how that looks, but I’d think you could find better options for what you want there.
