So I already wrote this in some side chats w/ @AdventiveQuasar @BDragon @chavlicek15 @DFresh11ā¦
@AdventiveQuasar mustāve jinxed me. This past Sunday I had a game between two U17 teams in a Championship match.
Game started a few minutes late because the game beforehand on the field went to PKsā¦ so I quickly did the coin toss and started the match.
Within the first two minutes a hard challenge and a yellow cardā¦ which if I had VAR couldāve been a red, but I spoke to the AR and he told me his studs were down.
Side noteā¦ AR on the side where I had all my problems was an extremely young & new kid, so this made some of the issues worse.
I made a penalty call at 20 minutesā¦ but my AR had his flag up and I walked over and he said it wasnāt a foulā¦ so I waved it off. Parents went NUTS! Coaches and players are already screaming at me.
Hard foul right before halftimeā¦ another yellow card. Any touch of another player for any reason, clean or not, was followed by yelling, name calling, cursing & gestures by parents, players, coachesā¦ more yellow cards. I gave a red card to a bench player for yelling āyouāre fāing terrible!ā
Five minutes to the end of the gameā¦ down in the corner near the young AR sideā¦ player goes in for a hard slide tackle. Tackled player gets up and proceeds to rip the jersey off of the other player. Ripped jersey player then starts punching. Both teams run to incident. A parent runs from the sideline and jumps in. After everything calms down, I end the game, issue 3 more red cards. On site cops come and escort off the players and coaches.
Mom of the bench kid red card from above rushes me telling me her son would NEVER curse at me and I needed to take the red card back! She had to be restrained.
Stuff yelled at me after the game that I remember:
āThat punch was on you ref!ā
āYou should never referee a game ever again if you canāt handle the playersā
āThe game is not about you referee! You needed to let them play!ā
There were a lot moreā¦ but I thought the last two comments contradicted themselves as each group of parents were viewing the game in their own lens.
Anywaysā¦ this is why referees quit. That young kid AR was rattled more than you can imagine. He told me the parents of both teams were absolutely assholes to him.
The sad part about the whole incidentā¦ as everyone was walking away, there did not seem to be any accountability for their actions. All blame was towards the referees from both coaches, all the parents and all the players. They will go back home and think no one was guilty except me and my two ARs.
Againā¦ I blame @AdventiveQuasar for this after he asked the question above. I havenāt had one this bad in a while. LOL!
