šŸ¤” Musings on the Bennett era

Was trying to not engage in the Jack Salt bait on the intel thread, but @kjwilliams612 , this post is violence:

If we want an apples to apples comparison of ā€œwho’s good at offense when surrounded by NBA playersā€ then let’s compare Salt in 18-19 to RD on the Suns.

Tbh, I’m just relieved that Ty and Dre are still able to thrive without all those screens.

(And look, I like Jack. But let’s not get this twisted…)

I demand you restart the podcast and issue a public apology. :joy:

Our offense was a lot better in 2019 with Mamadi at the 5 than Jack. Hell the defense may have been better too. Not trying to take away from Jack, he was a really valuable player, especially for certain matchups. We don’t beat Purdue without him. But let’s not sell Mamadi short.

Jack was a great piece to have. See the Purdue game. Tony promoted Mamadi at the right time, tho

But what if we’d just played Huff instead against Purdue?

lol I may have been a bit wild here but I still think RD at a 4 in mover blocker was a bad fit.

Also I might be in the minority but I don’t think RD’s rookie year was anything special. Decent stats on a bad team and fell out of the rotation a few times. Still think he’s an upcoming talent but he did make me appreciate Salt more.

NO AUSSIES OR KIWIS!

Jack Salt was fun, we needed him for that one matchup, and screens, but c’mon.

Let me make an even more incendiary remark…

Those 2019 Hoos DO NOT win the natty if Jack Salt hadn’t hurt his back.

Not really controversial… just a fact.

He was struggling and it was clear in hindsight that the last few years he was more going through the motions and pouting than he was doing what he did from 2014-2019. He’s also a stoic guy with a few passive aggressive tendencies and I think it just took him time to realize it was never going to work. A shame — was really hoping he’d be our coach until he was in his 70’a and deliver multiple FFs and maybe even another title, but the game changed and he couldn’t. Do think he could have handled it all better than he did though.

The relitigation on this board of the 2019 natty will never not be stupid.

We won.

Period.

Go Hoos.

Counterpoint: talking hoops is fun! And if we start banning stupid posts, well then we are all gonna get hit by that.

I was at that game. Great game! Back in the days when Bennett dominated Williams and I felt genuine sympathy towards Carolina.

Imagine having to ride home with a Carolina fan after the Woldetensae game … very quiet ride…. I was so pumped and had to hold it in til I got home where I watched the replay 29 times.
