💰 Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) Discussion

Even if signing periods went away, the overall recruiting calendar would still likely create windows of a sort, right? Coaches are still going to want some certainty heading into live periods and whatnot, so maybe they’ll still ask for yes/nos around them?

Exactly.

I read the final hearing on the house settlement will be next April 7 (also the day of the hoops national championship). So it seems likely that the bulk of the next portal season / late signing season plays out with 13 scholarships being the default.

Reading through, I think the signing periods stay in tact. Although I can’t find it specifically mentioned. It just does away with the letter of intent and replaces it with a scholarship agreement that’s non-binding for the player. Same rules still apply…once a recruit is signed, other coaches can’t contact.

I believe we’ve discussed this before, but now there’s more details on the contracts:

Personal opinion following: The existence of this kind of thing really puts some imperative on the need to get the “pay for play” NIL payments to actually come from the school and no longer get labeled as NIL.

The fact that there isn’t a lot more of that, HS and college players signing with shoe companies, is telling When it was illegal, Nike and Adidas were throwing $100K bags under tables everywhere. But now that it’s above board, not so much.

Mama Dragon was not about to drop the coin on one. That’s why Dragon didn’t develop his hops until late in life.

I asked for Pumps for Christmas back in 4th grade and got the tennis version (no hyperlinks back then).
