Donât just lurk! Jump in, the waterâs fine!
Gameday! Big one!

Itâs a fun matchup. Glad it doesnât have conference implications. Their guards could really give us fits
BUR preview:
#42 Ohio State vs. #20 Virginia (-5), 8 PM ET, FOX.
Yes, you read the schedule correctly, Ohio State and Virginia are playing in Nashville in mid February. This could quickly turn into a tricky matchup for the Hoos given OSUâs ability to exploit coverages with Bruce Thorntonâs elite ball screen and off the dribble scoring (93rd and 86th percentile efficiency ratings, respectively). Virginiaâs rim protection within their drop coverage is borderline dominant, and that allows them to really contest on the perimeter, where opponents have shot sub 30% on the year from 3 (and even slightly lower in ACC play). Where Virginia has struggled defensively is defending on the ball and in ball screens, which OSU can exploit with Thornton (but really need Mobley to step up as well, as they lose every time he goes MIA).
For Virginia, this is an excellent matchup for Thijs De Ridder to get back on track offensively, as heâs struggled the last few games (which has also coincided with Malik Thomas struggling offensively and defensively, which in turn has led to another apparent doghousing for him), and the Cavs can absolutely dominate the offensive glass- but I think the Buckeye backcourt has an even better matchup. - Jordan Majewski
We cant take any game for granted nowadays.
Good take. Over the last month or so the Hoos and OSU have been mirror opposites in terms of offensive and defensive capabilities. Weâll see if we can use their lackluster defense to get things going.
OSU also been a poor rebounding team as of late.
Hereâs my hot take: If we pull off a dominant win tonight, given Wisconsinâs drubbing of Michigan State yesterday in Madison, and depending on how some other key matchups go (see below), then #15 Virginia could be knocking on the door of a Top 10 ranking come Monday.
Other key games to watch today:
#25 Kentucky at #14 Florida - 3pm EST
#13 Purdue at Iowa - 5pm EST
#12 Gonzaga at Santa Clara - 10:30pm EST
Pittsburgh at #11 North Carolina - 2pm EST (without Caleb Wilson)
#9 Kansas at #5 Iowa State - 1pm EST
GO HOOS!!!
Not a hot take here, but how this game is called will go a long way. Donât need to see Thortonn at the line 42 times tonight.
I think you reversed the Pit-UNC rankings.
At wedding in La Quinta now. 5pm local tip for wedding and the Hoos game. ![]()
Thanks - fixed!
My big concern about tonight is this game matters much more for them than us.
Hoping at least one of Thijs or Malik can get back on track tonight. Weâll need them.
After watching what McCray did to us last game, Iâm very scared of Thornton.
Speaking of McCray: Anyone know why the announcers insisted on always referring to him as âMcCray The Fifth?â Did FSU also have a McCray IV on the bench and the announcers were afraid weâd be confused? At one point, they were talking about how McCray and Jones were scoring all the points, and I thought it would be only fair if they started referrring to Jones as âJones The First.â
This gives me a tiny opening to raise one of my pet peeves (so of course Iâm taking it):
They shouldnât put âJr.â and âIIIâ on jerseys. Itâs not part of your last name! If anything, itâs part of your first name. Your dad is Jim, and youâre âJim Junior.â (But even then, since your dad is not on the team, the differentiator isnât called for.)
Or how about the NBA guys pointing out that Trey Murphy III was redundant? You can be Trey or the third, but not both
Heâs listed on FSUâs website as Robert McCray V.
The way I see it:
First name: Robert
Last name: McCray
Full name: Robert McCray V
Thereâs no need to say âthe Fifthâ unless youâre saying his full name (and even then, only if thereâs a potential for confusion with his father). But in McCrayâs case I get it â fifths are so rare, they canât resist saying it. Itâs like Cory saying âPoca Dotsâ. Inevitable.
Whoa. Robert McCray V is one of eight siblings. And he was the fifth child.
Sorry for hijacking a game thread, but ![]()
