Yea I know itâs Odomâs thing but I wouldnât mind a bit of a tightened rotation with the longer timeout and longer halftime
That checks out to about what the eye test told me. I also thought Dallin was a lot better than he was getting credit for. 6-6 from the line is huge in March and he had a positive ATO ratio while playing (IMO) decent defense.
Weâve known all year heâs not going to be a leading scorer, but if he can keep being an elite glue guy type and elite in his role weâll be fine.
Guard play wins in March and we have a trio of others who can get it done any given day.
Heâs a gamer, plain and simple
Calling him Captain America is funny for the guys but I like Captain Clutch. He just has IT.
Itâs this âdifferent hero every gameâ dynamic that actually gives me hope the guys can advance in this tourney. If we get a game where most of them are âonâ, this team can beat anyone. NCAAs are known for bringing out top performances in guys.

This is why the important part of guarding Gillespie is forcing him to put the ball on the floor. We canât let him shoot a bunch of 3s regardless of who is on him. He may ending up cooking us (as good guards have done this season) but it is far better to make him earn his points driving, or pulling up for midrange jump shots.
Also, rebounding is the highest priority â not simply to prevent second-chance points â but to get out in transition. I noticed from watching some video of them that teams were exceptionally successful at scoring in transition. I donât know what the numbers say, but that was the eye test. We emphasize that anyway, but it will give us a significant advantage if we can run often.
I watched a lot of Gillespie in person when he was at Maryland.
You need quick and with length to bother him. He will do to Chance what Carsen Edwards did to Kihei (and all of our other guards).
We donât have a good answer for him and itâs going to be tough.
I think it will be one of those âtry to minimize his scoringâ and shut the others down. As you said, we just donât have anyone who can shut him down. He will gar his, but hopefully it is not enough to beat us.
Yeah I think extending the d on him and trying to keep a chest to him out around the perimeter is the best bet. Take your chances on him driving and creating with Ugo and GrĂźnloh down low.
The Tennessee bigs probably wonât pull us out of the paint in the same way that Wright was able to. Going to have to fight over screens so our bread and butter drop coverage can be effective.
yeah youâre right, my bad. I knew they started that way but assumed they shifted to normal. No wonder theyâre a somewhat underachieving team. Thatâs awful roster planning, practically inexcusable in this age.
Ament was their worst player yesterday. Not sure how much an ankle could heal in two days.
Winner of this one will probably be ~ a pick against Iowa State if Jefferson is out. Maybe even favored
I guess theyâll be more than one bear in those woods.
I think this is correct.
Not sure the âfrontcourt with no shootersâ thing is by design though. They struck out with Rice. I hear they thought they had I-Mac, but there was some hang up about post-grad work. I think there options were sort of limited after that because they put too much money into Ament.
Going to need a big game from Malik in my opinion. Want him in the 20âs scoring wise.
I also think heâs our second best guard in terms of defending at this point (Iâve got Dallin 1st).
Need De Ridder to be smart and a relatively efficient scorer
Hope this is the type of game he gets fired up and locked in for
Iâm going to prepare myself for frustration when Tennessee keeps pulling down offensive rebounds.
We definitely have the toughest draw of the 3 seeds which isnât surprising, but Iâm really glad we got a 3. Outside of Arkansas, the rest of the 5âs are toughhh (St Johnâs, Texas Tech, Vandy).
