Anyone have a link to one of those video primers, or whatever, on Tennessee? Thx
This will either be a typical āhigh seed gets a scare, low seed coasts, everyone picks the low seed and the high seed wins comfortablyā game (Like I think Duke/TCU and Michigan/SLU will be)
OR
A typical ādude goes fucking crazy against UVA from 3ā game. Iām leaning towards option one, weāve been pretty good at shutting down first options under Odom (Okorie and Boozer come to mind). Make them run through Ament. Heās not ready for the moment or for our physicality.
Think Lewis will actually be on him a lot. Their Ament lineups usually have him at the 3 with 2 of: Okpara, Estrella, White II, Carey. Barnes is one of the remaining āfrontcourt with no shootersā practitioners.
We donāt. Never do, never have, never will.
Sounds like an awesome break. Enjoy
Yeah I think itāll be Lewis, but Iām actually pro Thijs guarding him. Body him up and play physical and make him really think about if going at him/defending him is worth it. Adapt if we get in foul trouble, but typically tournament refs let you play a bit.
Problem is really on the offensive boards though, their 4s are around 10% OR rate, their 5s are at 17%. Big ask for Lewis to battle there.
Why am I worried for the woods you will be in?
Ok everyone. Fresh will be in Philly tomorrow with my nephew niece and my twins. Will send seats/ location when I receive my tickets.
Go Hoos!
Id love for Thijs to switch onto him occasionally and body him, but Lewis is lowkey one of our best defenders and CLEARLY our best trash talker. Lewis will absolutely get in Amentās head if heās guarding him and cause some stupid mistakes
Lewis should be guarding him. Heās a perimeter player on Tennesseeās offense.
Tbh Iām way more worried about Gillespie and Okpara.
In the words of the great Darion Atkins ā¦
they did have to play essentially a road game in stl which maybe made the game more competitive
if de Ridder is guarding ament, who will guard their 4? are we gonna play some bigger lineups than weve seem before? tillis at the 3?
also with ament being hurt id make him prove he can actually score right now before putting too much focus on him defensively
So am I but I trust Odom to handle those guys like he has other top guys on teams weāve faced (Okorie, Boopie, Boozer). Usually someone else has to step up against us and when that guy is someone as talented as Ament you gotta consider how to stop him too
I mean this respectfully, I donāt think this should be a big Tillis game. Probably not a big chance game either but Iād be more than happy for him to prove that wrong.
I think Tennessee length and athleticism cause issues for those 2 in particular. No disrespect to Chance but heās shorter than Gillespie, Iād rather see more length on him which should equate to the other guards all playing more.
I like Sam Lewis to have a big day tomorrow. Weāll see what happensā¦
I actually think Gillespie is small enough heās one of the guards out there that Chance can credibly guard. I think heāll be fine in spurts.
Chance just hasnāt played great the last couple games, so I would favor a shorter leash if it looks like another meh game from him.
When Tennessee goes big we should go small and put their bigs in position where they have to close out on a kickout to Lewis or Jacari.
Tennessee also a more traditional team that doesnāt shoot a lot of threes outside Jakobi which means in theory Grünloh and Ugo should have a block party game
He was just firing from all over the court yesterday. I think the easiest way to counter is make it harder for him to see over his matchupā¦
Iām not saying no Chance at all, completely agree heāll be fine in spurts but this isnāt one Iām expecting to see 25+ minutes and a good game from him. And thatās OK, heāll have his Chance to shine if we advance.
