I donât know, they list Mark Mitchell as a guard so I think they are generally confused.
Because there is no such better delicacy than beaten dead horse meat, itâs really jarring seeing the guard play of these other teams compared to VCU today. They really had no point guard. (which again makes their single digit loss to the future champions even more impressive)
At Utah St and UMBC, with Lyles/the short guy and Ashworth at Utah St they were very much more scheme heavy and less iso heavy. Like the typical mid Major that moves the ball well and slices and dices you.
Even though UVA is another jump up, I would rather lean back into those older scheme heavy Odom teams and do hope this yearâs VCU approach was because of the roster personnel which I believe he directly mentioned in a post game interview one time (and Im sure @Cuts_from_The_Corner will have more on that).
Why did he have no PG?
They use guards like pg but not in the traditional sense. Shulga and Bamisile are moreso scoring wings, and Phillip Russel is like a more Downhill Dai Dai.
They really lacked that floor general who has a good feel.
And why did he roll into this year with Fermin as his starting C. Needed another big and didnât get one in the portal. Couldâve been a resources issue or a lack of foresight.
To be fair I think itâs the former most likely and donât worry as much about roster construction here where heâll have more resources but did find it curious
Or it could be that it was VCU and it was more than enough given their resources and what they needed and wanted to accomplish which they did dominating the A10.
This was a question from a lot of VCU fans too. They wanted Jalen Haynes who ended up going to GMU instead and had a very solid season.
VCU did have to make decisions. Like their pursuit of Jack Clark meant they couldnât afford Luke Bamgboye
Man this closing games of day 1: Calhoun McCollum Olen. Rising stars in the game
Another husky lad. Maybe Odom doesnât value thiccness enough in his centers?
It may be a matter of taste, but the drake offense with the constant movement, screening, and passing is beautiful. The 2nd half had shown itâs not just Stirtz.
Did I miss something? They are blowing a 15 point lead on my TV.
Yeah theyâre in full meltdown mode. They may lose this by ten
They run good stuff. Their talent is awful. No athleticism. Olen will have the same story later tonight.
I am not attributing this to McCollum, he has like. 6 Div 2 guys in his core group of players. They look outclassed in the second half except Stirtz.
I kinda like their chances. Michigan is a high TO team and UCSD is good at forcing them. The game should have a lot of 3PA by both teams so will be higher variance.
I am actually rooting for them. Underdog vs. SEC and I picked the upset. Hoping they can hang on. It was not a pretty 7 minutes there.
drake gonna pull it out. mizzou losing steam
Missou is running all iso and drake is running great combination actions and passing. Drake may not win but itâs not coaching.
This is a classic scheme vs talent game.
McCollum some day (soon) will have both.
