Love that youre all in on this train with me
Its not the lack of east coast ties its the lack of travel and experience. When you dont have that and donāt get the cultural and regional influences it becomes a problem.
If taking his family on the 2.5 hr drive from Maryville to Des Moines feels like setting off on the Oregon Trail, he aināt making it here.
Of Maryville is the Mecca for you and cant leave destination⦠may god help you.
Itās the equivalent of living working at Sweet Briar living in Ahmerst and thinking life donāt get much better than this.
And i say that having lived and experienced Maryville and having a parent be the VP of Sweet Briar
Except Sweet Briar is in VA and Maryville is in OH. And the guy likes OH. He obviously canāt be reasoned with, so letās move on to hoping for Sanchez but wishing for Shaka.
A little off topic but it is coaching change related
On YouTube ⦠Inside Carolina, In the Rafters, and Tar Heel Illustrated have turned off the ability to make comments
The fan base is calling for the head of Hubert Davis. Iām sure the University has requested these comments be turned off
Hubert Davis is Sidney Lowe 2.0. Roll the ball out and play street ball.
Hubert Davis was cooked once Bacot left campus and will be doubly cooked once RJ Davis graduates
The UNC job coming open the same year weāre hiringā¦: would not be great
If it does come open (Iām skeptical), who would they target?
Wes Miller.
Yeah I think they give him one more year. They were a 1 seed last season and heās made a national championship game. All in four seasons.
They are a relatively savvy fan base, so itās not just results - itās how are you using what you have. And to date it hasnāt been that impressive even with the tourney run and last yearās one seed. But still think you cant can a guy with those outcomes after 4 years, no matter how prestigious the program.
Maryville is in Missouri he coached and went to NW Missouri
You also missed the entire point of my post.
I agree, though Hubertās resume is hilarious. You never know if this is gonna to be a Good Hubert year or a Bad Hubert year. Thereās no in-between where theyāve just kinda met expectations.
My updated list as we start the new year.
- Rick Carlisle
- Mark Byington
- Wes Miller
- Chris Gerlufsen
- Russell Turner
This assumes Shaka says no (along with Rhoades and Anthony Grant if we even reach out to them).
Iām done with Odom. Have never really been interested in Moser. Think McCollum will inevitably land at Iowa. And donāt have interest in the Utah St guy because success there can be a mirage as itās an easy job.
Good list. I do think Rhoades would leave Penn State., donāt think they invest much in Bball and they lost their last coach went to Notre Dame so thereās a precedent
In a vacuum, sure, but Rhoades is a central PA guy. That plus the B1G money (not talking about salary, Iām talking about the TV money/support from football generally) would make him hard to pull, especially after 1 year. I also think UVA may not want to do whatās necessary to land him. Itās certainly possible that many involved in the hiring process are very aware of Rhoadesās tenure at VCU and might not be terribly impressed by it. If Mike really wanted the job, sure we would get on board, but I donāt think weād be willing to be as aggressive as we would likely need to be to land him.
Weād probably rather be that aggressive in pursuit of Byington.
Eh they can only hire one guy.
This is why Iāve always been opposed to Wes Miller. I donāt want them eying him like weāre eying Byington and Rhoades right now. Hubert has been walking a really thin tightrope and his days are definitely numbered IMO.
How is UNCās NIL?
Like, why couldnāt they sing a decent big?
Fear of Jalen Washington? Doubt it
Not enough NIL? Maybe
Misspent NIL? Possibly (too much to RJ and maybe frosh?)
Bad roster decisions? Maybe (if so, then itās on Hubert)
Iām not advocating for the Utah State guy, but what heās done there so far is the wrong context. Look at his results at Youngstown State relative to their results since joining D1 around 1980. Overall it wonāt blow you away but versus what anyone else has managed there in that window (or overall minus their basketball version of George Welsh when they were a D2 program) is the impressive part. That heās taken it up an apparent level (as much as you can judge in a coachās first 15 or so games at a place without watching like a hawk) seems like a leading indicator of a quality coach.
Question with Calhoun and anyone else who hasnāt dealt with the portal stuff that much:
How important will roster management be vs. X/Os? If House levels things and/or schools move towards a GM model, then you might more highly value guys whoāve been successful at lower levels.
