And HAVE won. Utah Stateās coach prior to Odom, Craig Smith, won 28-26-20 games in his 3 years at Utah State, 3-3 on making the NCAAT (even though they didnāt play in 2020 obviously). And obviously, Odom took over for Rhoades, who was solid at VCU, but Capel, Grant, Shaka, and Wade all won before him.
And Turner worked for Dave Odom at Wake.
Ron interviewed by Dauster - very good interview. Worth a listen.
Hire Ron for this plus 2 years. My opinion
No way you really think this.
Really enjoyed this. Made me like Ron a lot as a person - especially his comments on Power.
Not sure where youāre coming from on this. Iāve got no reason to mute you, but I clearly touched a nerve without intention. Canāt promise it wonāt happen again, so feel free to mute me if you need to.
Read between the lines. Ron said TB fād him (Ron) by giving Ron zero chance to prepare.
Listening to some of this interview made me stop and think on Ron⦠he answers this stuff so honestly. And it isnāt all complete softballs (although still not @Marktykobe levels of great questions). Ron is being asked to coach a team he didnāt have full decision on putting together with multiple pieces that havenāt exactly cooperated with the situation and was asked to do so on essentially 2 weeks notice.
In game adjustments honestly havenāt been great. Thereās a reason a number of teams have outscored to flat out smacked us after halftime. But then I think who are guys I 100% hope stick around next season? Thereās a trend in the guys I hope stick and who recruited/pushed for themā¦
Ron hasnāt done enough to this point to earn the job. Not entirely his fault but in the things he could control he hasnāt. But thereās still some hope he figures that out.
Basically, Ron got set up on a blind date with only :30 mins to get ready and be at the restaurant to meet his buddy and the ladies.
He didnāt get the chance to shower or put on a good shirt but heās being a great wingman for his best friend. Sheās a 6/10 (on prom night) and heās being a gentleman and saying the right things to keep the date alive. .
But at the end of the day, Ron canāt dance and is going home alone.
Sounds like you may have been there. But we all know you were our best dancer at UVa
Ah coach Ron. The only virgin in the coaching business.
Also a dude from the boogey complaining that someone from WI got over on him.
What is WI?
Seriously?
The Ron interview was better than I expected. I appreciate him seeming candid about the transition and the position he was placed in.
In a honesty the interview made me appreciate Ron more while further stoking my feelings of anger/frustration towards Tony.
One of the heuristics that has served me well in hiring people throughout my career as an entrepreneur has been that a candidate for a new role has to align with 3 criteria; a) they need to demonstrate the skills and experience to do the work; b) they need to demonstrate a real motivation to come work for your organization; and c) they need to be a good cultural fit.
As we collectively contemplate potential new hires for the HC role at UVA, I think this board is overweighting for skills & experience, and underweighting for cultural fit. Motivation is something that is hard for us to know except by parsing tweets and second-hand gossipā¦but I am fairly confident that we are not going to hire a new HC that strays too far from the 5 Pillars culture, the āVirginia Wayā that has been established by CTB.
On motivation and cultural fit, Sanchez already has the inside track. The question is if he can prove heās up to the task on the āskills & experienceā metric this season.
Either way, Iām confident that folks with felony charges (even if they were dropped) or other such issues related to personality and cultural fit are not going to be leading the charge come next season for the Hoos.
So we agree it should be Ron. Give him this plus 2 years to start
How do you measure motivation?
You measure motivation using a motivateomitor.
And no I like Ron but Iām not going to crown him yet.
Rare but earned poop emoji for you my brother
Sorry. Ronās a great guy doing a good job given the hand that heās delt.
Unfortunately part of that hand includes the frustration and anger with how Tony left the program has me ready for a reset with a new direction.
