How do we go a whole coaching era of 16 years without ever being able to have a lead guard like Hepburn ā¦. seriously why canāt we recruit and sign lead guards with wiggle who can get downhill and get past their man at Will?

This all got me thinking where the assistants would go if not here next year. The sneaky hot commodity would be Vandross. Professional northeast recruiter. Iāve heard storiesā¦that guy knows everybody.

Thinks thereās a chance any of them hang around if Ron leaves? Assuming for the purposes of the exercise that the new coach will want to retain them.
I would think Williford and Vandross would be open to staying in the right situation. Vandross probably only as a package with J Willy.
Maybe the young guys, Wilkins or Guy. I donāt know. Theyād have the most options.

Could get Berke the Turk though.
More risk involved but just sign a PG in free agency instead of signing one wired for us. Weāre going to have to be active in the market anyway.
If weāre trying to hire a coach for the next 15 years, not sure we should care much at all about whether they will bring with them a specific player or two from their former program who will be here for one or two years. Definitely a nice bonus but seems like a blip in the bigger picture.

Any new HC worth his salt will want his own people on his staff. No one on the current staff stays unless previously connected with the new hire. I really hope Carlisle is the savior to pull us out of this mess and provide a bridge to our future.

Hoiberg would be an unbelievable hire. I think he would kill it here. Really has built up Nebraska to a nice level. On pace for their second straight 23+ win season and another NCAAT berth.

ā¦. Why? I mean, not saying youāre wrong, but why the certainty? Arenāt we trying to make a long-term hire of a guy to build a program?
Also, canāt the new guy just recruit a great PG or land one in the portal? Wonāt they need to do that throughout their tenure to be successful?
