Yeah thatās probably giving the fans too much power. But Iām bored on a Friday at work and just created an excel with basically every possible realistic candidate with rationales for/against. Is the search firm really going to provide much more value than that (yes I know they help grease the wheels with agents)?
If you want to go down the conspiracy theory routeā¦
Did we use a search firm to hire Carla? Has that search firm placed other coaches recently? Who are the agents of those other coaches and who else do they represent?
Carry over from the season threadā¦but Iād throw my support behind the hiring of almost any new HC who would promise new uniforms and to bring back the orange. Should be a requirement to interviewā¦make the orange pledge.
Second this. If a coach brings back the script font, that is a huge bonus.
Iām sure thereās a part of you thatās excited for a potential new coach being less tight lipped about everything. Iām sure itās always felt like pulling teeth to get recruiting intel with TB over the years
Yeah but is it starting from scratch with sources? Or does the HGN brand and cred get you in the door?
Just trying to project my budget for 2025 with the VIP sub, ya know.
I think you just spoke hiring someone completely paranoid into existence.
Youād think a new coach would come in looking to get the fans excited. Lowest hanging fruit is orange jerseys and putting out more content during the offseason (streaming the BW scrimmage, longer practice clips, etc)
Yes, but remember that coaches have powerful brains that tell them things like āIf I list every player on my roster as a point guard, this will make them happy/communicate my vision of basketball to themā
Iām on the Dawn Staley bandwagon for now.
Weird. I feel like Coach Hamilton deserves more time it feels like sheās on the upswing.
I remain unsure how mid major coaching success can be measured in the post-covid-NIL-new transfer portal era. Programs considered less than high majors are the most susceptible to the ravages brought on by recent changes. Essentially, NCAA basketball is broken, and it remains to be seen if the PTB have the willingness to fix it. And, until it is fixed, it will remain difficult to determine if a mid-major teamās success is due to superior coaching or simple happenstance. I have strong doubts that we will see any mid-major school enjoy sustained success with the new rules. With that in mind, I am not sure how we will measure Virginiaās success this year. Even had Coach Bennett stayed, I remain a bit uncertain how quickly this team would gel. I think that āsuccessā will be determined by how the team is trending in February and not its overall record. For the moment, I donāt know, but I do believe the best outcome will be if Coach Sanchez proves to successful.
Then, I have other questions:
Why would Shaka Smart leave Marquette (and home) for Virginia? You would have to believe that his decision to leave VCU for Texas would color any future considerations. (His line at one time was, āDonāt run away from happiness!ā, and he forgot to follow his own advice one time. I donāt expect him to forget twice.)
Why would Nate Oats consider Virginia, and why would Virginia consider Nate Oats?
Finally, who is the current coach at the College of Charleston?
I donāt know why people are mentioning his name. He will not be a candidate.
Nate Oats is too expensive.
From the below article:
If another school hires Oats away from Alabama in the first two years of the contract, it will owe Alabama $18 million. Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne said he believed thatās the highest such buyout in the country.
They are not talking about Nate Oats they are talking about Otzelberger (or something like that) at Iowa State. He is referred to as Otz and that has been translated or misinterpreted as Oats. You are right No way we would ever pull Oats away from Bama
Yeah, recent history suggests we should hire VCU to select Charlestonās coach for us.
No there have been a few people throwing out Oatsās name too.
Got you, well thatās nuts. No way Oats is coming to UVa.
