- He’s extremely unlikely to leave his current job & situation. They’re tanking on purpose and Ainge wants him to be the long term guy.
- Hardy and his family have very strong ties to UVA. A handful of family members attended. They also have relationships with some of the more influential UVA families.,
Trilly discord full of people saying 1) Calhoun’s system is super fun (plssss) and 2) he probably makes the most sense for Cincinatti if they fire Miller this year which I completely forgot about Calhoun being on Huggins Cincinnati and WVU staffs (and a few WVU saying if they lose DeVries they want Calhoun too)
Wait WVU fans are already saying if they lose DeVries… it’s all going according to plan
Was gonna wonder if Greg McDermott is a sneaky retirement candidate (as that would be a natural DeVries place), but he just signed an extension through 2027-28.
The coaches of the Top SEC schools and their previous situation
Tennessee: Rick Barnes 7 straight seasons unable to make it out of the first weekend of March (and a CBI appearance in there)
Auburn: Bruce Pearl had Tennessee rolling but then got in trouble. Take Auburn to NCAA tournament in year 4
Alabama: Nate Oates 4 really strong years at Buffalo (2 round of 32 appearances) and before that 10 years as a high school coach in Michigan
Ole’ Miss: 3 meh seasons and 3 strong seasons at Texas tech. Round of 32 appearances in his only season at Texas
Florida: Todd Golden: only one tournament appearance with San Francisco. Interestingly was on Kyle Smith (Stanford) staff at Columbia.
Of course to take into consideration and what Im sensing is maybe the bigger factor in their recent success is all the football money flooding into the conference. I remember seeing last year’s or the year before SEC 1st and 2nd team and it was all transfers.
Yeah DeVries was on staff for both Dana Altman and then Greg McDermott at Creighton. (which has me wondering if any of our current assistants interview for the next staff.)
Recently signed extensions meant something in my day.
Math doesn’t math there. They lost to Purdue in the Sweet 16 in Louisville in 2019. It was a great game — far better than whatever the hell that was in the nightcap!
At Texas
Calhoun looks too much like Bronco, especially in the navy & white USU gear.
Kidding aside, Bronco may not have the nicest things to say about UVA if Jerrod does end up getting interest from us.
One name I came across while looking at the Western guys (Calhoun, Russ Turner, Gerlufsen) is Eric Olen at UCSD.
Interesting resume. Built a dominant D2 program then transitioned to D1 literally during Covid, which had to be borderline impossible. Won 21 games last year and are 14-3 so far this year, including a win on the road at Utah St. Top 65 in KenPom. Don’t think I’ve seen his name mentioned before.
He left Texas in 2015.
I’d forgotten about LCU. Really great watch!
Or for Tony Bennett who used to coach the Virginia Cavaliers back in the day
Wow he coached J’Raan Brooks last year. That name is a blast from the past. Same class as Kihei.
Same he randomly popped into my head. Actually i want to know what his Assistant coach is up to
Oh wow. I was in the tank for J’Raan. I thought he was going to be so good here!
He was our next AG in my mind. Back when everyone was the next AG, and before everyone was the next Dre or Trey
agree on the money angle…but interestingly the conf took a small step back in football.
