Haha. I think it has a lot more to do with the style of play & winning. The name Bucky is an added bonus.
If thereās a coach out there named Blue, itās a no for me dog.
lol- does the same apply to our fans being distraught over losing the Blue Cain recruitment?
Honestly after Tony I donāt want anything that can be in any way considered a gimmick. Sure all coaches have a system, but I just want good basketball flexibility. Bucky ball is like exact opposite of Bennett ball. Iāll pass.
Im not going to stand here and let you disparage Bertie-Ball like that!
You should watch Samford play. Bucky is a winner.
Bennett ball didnāt exactly give UVA a lot of flexibility either.
There really are no gimmicks. There is only winning and losing.
Haha. But landing TJ Power from the portal seemed to more than make up for it.
Didnāt say Bennett did. After hearing slow pace canāt play blah blah blah donāt want any other type of gimmick to hear about. When youāre struggling having a gimmick or rock solid system lends itself to the moaning and complaining. Would rather have flexibility with solid X and Oās strategy. Guys who win with what they have, not force what they have into what they win with.
Nah. There are only so many Jared McCains out there.
All I can think of is the book series He Who Fights Monsters and all the brothers that go by Bert. Haha! @JoeBoxley amiright?
For it depends on how those specific āgimmicksā translate to recruiting. TBās system certainly made it difficult with him to recruit certain guys.
Iād imagine some of the same with Bucky, although probably less of an impact. Jacking up a lot of threes is a going to be a plus, but pressing all game is probably a negative for a lot of players.
Additionally, the skillset that can press well and force a lot of turnovers is athletes that can shoot the 3pt shot, which is a skillset quite a few coaches are going to be looking for. Iām talking myself out of Bucky as I write this.
Yeah⦠I donāt see it. Would love to cheer for his underdogs to maybe upset a big time team in March. Thatās about it.
Iām a big Bucky believer but only because I think heās really savvy and will adjust accordingly when he eventually gets a high major job. I donāt actually want him because the general style just isnāt all that pleasing to meā¦too chaotic, I donāt know, itās not fun or interesting. I appreciate him, think heās great, just donāt really want to root for it.
Would be shocked if heās under serious consideration anyway. A little earlyā¦heāll either need to dominate for a bit longer there or take a AAC/A10 type job in between.
Iām sorry but I refuse to call a grown man Bucky.
Needs to change his name if he wants to coach in Charlottesville
This Bucky was a grown man:
A Bucky can have a nice play but that does not make him a leader of men.
Letās take some polls. Do you believe the following are actual real possibilities for UVA?
Shaka Smart
- yes
- no
Mark Byington
- yes
- no
Jeff Capel
- yes
- no
Darian DeVries
- yes
- no
*I did not know DeVries first name until googling just now, coulda swore it was Dan. I like him better now somehow.
Rationale:
- Shaka (No): In a great situation there, why would he leave?
- Byington (Yes): Soft yes because heās a VA guy at a place thatās had some instability. Close to no because itās hard to pull a guy away after 1 year (unless youāre Brad Underwood).
- Capel (Yes): See the optimistic part of the Byington rationale.
- DeVries (No): See the pessimistic part of the Byington rationale. No ties here and Iām baking in the chance of Fran McCaffery retiring and Iowa coming hard for him.
Darian DeVries is definitely better than Dan DeVries (coming from a guy named Dan).
I think all 4 are actual possibilities⦠UVA has the resources to make them possible.
Of that I think Capel is least likely. Think itās more he would want us than we would want him.
Then I think Shaka is unlikely. But, like Capel, being unlikely doesnāt mean they arenāt a possibility.
