Shared that dorm with both Ryan Zimmerman and DâBrickashaw Ferguson.
Won the intramural basketball dorm league title with a group of mostly former WAHS and Woodberry Forest players and then beat the frat league champ for what they told us was the first time ever (no idea if thatâs true, chose to believe it, though) - before losing the overall final against Cade Lemckeâs team in OT by 2.
Jealous of all of my basketball accomplishments, Fresh and Hav?
My dorm (Hancock) 3 man hoops team won IMs my first year. To be fair I was first off the bench on our team but did get meaningful minutes. Back in the day we got t-shirts for winning an IM championship.
I still have my IM championship t-shirt for soccer! I was ballinâ walking around grounds with it on while no one else that I passed seemed to care at all. They were all jealous.
I always regretted how much better I was at basketball in college than in H.S. mostly because Iâd just live at the AFC. Needed that grind just a little earlier.
We DID get t-shirts. I got two - one for that glorious Humphreyâs team - one for inner tube water polo!
Okay - apologies - Iâm just looking at the thread title now.
Had a very similar experience - so much better in college than when I played âfor realâ in high school. I never meshed playing for my coach. Pathetically, one of my favorite sports moments was scrimmaging my old high school team with some other alums and they couldnât stop me. The coach made plenty of smart-ass comments about it too. The downside - all of us college guys were sucking wind. I guess practicing everyday, running sprints and suicides, and (for me in high school) not drinking, all make a difference. Iâll shut up before we get moved to a new thread.
Is Bill Carmody still around? Wasnât he essentially the inventor of it? That is what my hazy brain is remembering. Itâs probably just revisionist history in my head.
If the rationale is âwe expect our next head coach to have better achievements than an upset NCAAT winâ then sure, thatâs logical to me. If the rationale is âthis would be bad vibesâ or âI donât want to be reminded of that bad dayâ I am not in agreement.
Itâs pretty simple to me. If you have to think about whether this coach would be considered if he hadnât beat UVA that one time, itâs a problem. Bob Richey has one NCAA tourney appearance, one win. Sure heâs consistently had good teams in the SoCon. But he inherited a good program, and the SoCon is an easy league to have a good record in, thereâs a top tier well above the rest of the league.
Odom I think thereâs still an argument for, heâs gone on and had some success at other higher programs. Richey shouldnât even be on the list, and I doubt he actually is.
