Yes? Well, specifically that he would leave for Carolina if that became available.
Heās also got some of the same things going on as other candidates: no NCAAT track record, Cincinnati has done fine relative to where the last coach was, but last season was a losing conference record (in a meat grinder of a conference, to be fair).
Would imagine Wes Miller is also in a āprove itā sort of year given that Cincy is supposed to be pretty good. Needs to make the tournament pretty definitively, anything less and you start to question the hype given heās in his fourth season there.
I agree with you and also with the other reasons folks gave.
The age stuff is both fair and unfair, I think itās gonna be person-specific whether that really matters.
They wobbled a little last year with the step-up in conferenceā¦not sure what to make of that. Kinda like Grand Canyon University, Iām not sure how much the resource advantage the institution has over their conference peers due to their business model translates into basketball resources, but maybe something to think about.
Damin Altizer. Probably not as HC but Virginia needs to find a way to get him on the staff full time as the head of player development. At minimum. Not real sure how long Kyle Guy is planning to stay, but regardless, create a spot for Altizer on the staff where he helps develop the playerās skills. Heās one of the best in the country and heās right in our backyard. Plus, heās worked with Virginia legends for several years (Jerome, Hunter, Dunn, many, many others).
I canāt think of anyone more qualified. Heās also a former Virginia basketball player and one of the most brilliant basketball minds out there who truly knows how to teach the game first and foremost. Has had ties to our program for several years. Iām not sure of his interest in jumping into the college game as an assistant, but if he does itās a no-brainer. If Virginia is smartā¦his name needs to be in there somewhere whenever we get the next staff settled. Itās a no-brainer.
Damin strikes me as a guy whoās doing exactly what he wants to be doing. Of course if he wants on the staff, you make a place for him. But it wouldnāt surprise me if his life goal is to be doing exactly this for another 30 years.
Huge get for Virginia to have Damin in house BUT then can he do all the extra stuff with the players or does it count against the hours per week with coaches?
Also may not be best for his business model. But I dont know
The Message Board Genius: may or may not have ever played basketball competitively. May or may not have ever watched a basketball game sober. Can manipulate advanced metrics to make themselves seem intelligent when in fact they are not. Has an opinion on every single thing. Posts a lot. Often in long form.
The greatest coach ever aka @WFS_HOO : has never and will never be wrong about anything. Keeps his posts short and to the point but always witty. Everybody enjoys his humor. Is basically the best guy ever. Wins many basketball games.
Yeah I think the current status quo with him is pretty good. No hours cap and I assume heās well compensated somehow for it. I donāt see a need to bring him in-house unless he starts getting competing offers that would take him out of cville.
Yes, and he also played at Creighton under Dana Altman. And like Oats, Huss rose up the high school ranks to start his career before landing on a college staff.
Heās just 45 as well. The concern would be that he wants to be the guy to replace McDermott at his alma mater when the time comes, but heās going to be a star.
I wish they played literally any non terrible teams this year so we could see them against a slightly decent level of competition. Looking at Torvik they donāt even have a single quad 1 or quad 2 game.
Still, seeing that he inherited a team that had been 200+ in Torvik with an offense that was 250+ for like seven years and in a single season had them ranked 123 by the end with the 43rd ranked offense is pretty impressive. Youāre selling me on him.
